Craig Meade McComb, 82, of Fargo, ND, passed away peacefully on November 13, 2023, at Sanford Medical Center surrounded by family. Craig was born January 1, 1941, to Carl and Almira (Schmidt) McComb in Fargo, ND. He graduated from Central High School in 1958 as an honorable mention All-American football player. Craig received a bachelor's degree from Minnesota State University Moorhead (MSUM) in 1965. He also received his master's degree from MSUM. Craig married his wife of 56 years, Arlene Anderson, on August 12, 1967, in Marshall, MN.
Craig was a lifelong educator and coach. He taught in Cass Lake, Glenwood, and Moorhead, MN, and retired from North High School in Fargo, ND. Over the years, Craig taught physical education, health, driver's training, weight training, and history, to name a few. He was the epitome of a hard worker and held many additional jobs throughout his life, including building railroads out West, working as a paramedic, refereeing basketball, and crop adjusting.
Craig was also passionate about coaching various sports throughout his career, with football being the highlight. To say Craig loved football would be an understatement. When he no longer played or coached, he watched football games in and out of season, took the family dogs to watch NDSU Bison football practice, and attended as many games as possible. Family trips always included a visit to the local football stadiums.
Being a grandfather was one of Craig's great joys. He adored his grandchildren and cherished time with them. He was often seen attending their various activities or reading books together in his recliner. He also relished time at the family cabin on Fox Lake in Detroit Lakes, MN. Finally, Craig was seldom seen without his dogs. He loved animals and had a particular love for dogs. Stray dogs had a propensity for finding Craig, and they usually became the next family pet.
He was a true Good Samaritan, offering aid and lending a hand whenever he could. No matter where Craig was in the country, he ran into someone he knew. He was also a devoted member of First Lutheran Church.
Craig was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Keith; and his sister-in-law, Marlene.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his children, Patrick McComb, Todd (Kelly) McComb, Jay McComb (Todd Folbrecht), Noelle McComb Simonson (Greg Simonson); his grandchildren, Kate, Alex, and Molly McComb; and Boden and Solveig Simonson; plus, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Memorial donations may be made in Craig's honor to Homeward Animal Shelter and the Fargo-Moorhead Salvation Army.
A funeral service will be held Monday, November 27, 2023, at 11:00 A.M., at First Lutheran Church in Fargo, ND, with visitation one hour before the service. The service will be livestreamed on the funeral home website. Interment will follow at Riverside Cemetery, Fargo, ND.

Craig and I taught Health together at Ben Franklin. He was always in a good mood and always had a good story to tell. He definitely was a nice man and will be missed by his family and friends. RIP Craig

I am Tim. My mom, Marlyss, and Arlene`s mom, Vi, Auntie Vi to me, were sisters. Mom just went to heaven recently, so she and Craig are with the Lord and with family and friends!
An early remembrance of Craig was that he was a football coach, which, for a young boy who loved sports, was a big deal.
And as an adult I fondly recall times fishing at his family´s cabin where Craig would put worms on the hooks for my two young sons.
Even though Craig was a strong imposing man, physically, he was always so gentle and kind to everyone. I and my family are so blessed to have known him! Love to all the family.
