Craig D. Nation, 82, of Avon, passed away on July 30, 2024, surrounded by loved ones. Born on January 12th, 1942, in Evanston, IL, to Orion and Edward T. Nation, Craig's life took him many places. Although well-traveled, home was always on the 16th tee of the Golf Club of Avon. In his early days, Craig attended Wake Forest College, where he spent four years and married the love of his life, Nancy. Upon graduating, Craig joined the United States Army. During his service, he and Nancy began building their family. After his military career, Craig achieved success in the insurance and real estate industries. One of his best and most memorable endeavors was his creation of the health club, Courthouse One. Some remember him through that, while others will remember him for his deep love of his faith and West Avon Congregational Church.
Craig's life was marked by many notable successes, but none were as profound as the enduring friendships and the loving family he and his wife Nancy built. One thing is certain: Heaven will have no shortage of warm welcomes awaiting him. Craig was predeceased by his parents, brother Bruce, wife Nancy, and grandson Connor. He is survived by his children, Amy Hankard and partner Peter Gabis, Elizabeth Zieky and her husband Jon, and son Craig "Douglas" and partner Rebecca Baker. Along with his children, he is survived by his eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren: Jacob, Alex, and Chase Zieky; Amy Burns, husband Kyle, and sons Casey and Sonny; Molly Feldman, husband Alex, and son Nathan; Samantha Hankard, partner Shawn King, and sons Greyson and Stone; Destany Hankard; and Brad Nation and daughter Aliyah. He is also survived by several sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on August 14th, 2024, at 11am at West Avon Congregational Church located at 280 Country Club Rd, Avon CT. Following the service, there will be a reception at the Golf Club of Avon.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Connor Scott Zieky Foundation or perform a random act of kindness in Craigs memory. For directions or condolences, please visit www.carmonfuneralhome.com.

To the Nation family:

Please accept my heartfelt condolences.

I knew Craig since the 7th grade at Sedgwick Jr. HS. He was a great friend.
We played Alumni Baseball together at Duffy field in 1956- see photo.

Our friendship continued at Conard HS where Craig as an outstanding quarterback on the football team. We were together at 50th Conard Class reunion and communicated by email until his passing.

Craig will be missed but I will keep his memory and legacy alive.

Sincerely,

James A. Johnson, aka Jimmy Johnson
