Cruz Cardenas Mendez, a devoted father, husband, brother, grandfather, and uncle, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2025, in Yakima, Washington, at the age of 77.

Cruz was born on May 3, 1948, in Michoacan, Mexico. He later made his home in the United States, where he built a life centered around hard work, family, and love. He was married to his beloved wife, Carmen Munoz Hernandez.

A man of great strength and humility, Cruz worked in agriculture and was also a skilled welder. He took pride in his work and in providing for his family.

Cruz was preceded in death by his loving parents, Ramon and Sofia Cardenas; two beloved brothers, Rafael and Concepcion Cardenas; and his son, Antonio Cardenas. He is survived by his wife, Carmen; his siblings; and his children: Jess Cardenas, Jaime Cardenas, Jorge Cardenas, Juan C. Cardenas, Jesus H. Cardenas, Maria L. Cardenas, Jackie Cardenas, Gina Cardenas, Maricruz Cardenas, Lala Cardenas, and Oscar Cardenas. He also leaves behind many treasured grandchildren.

He will be remembered for his quiet strength, his playful spirit, and his sense of humor. Always joking and full of laughter, Cruz brought joy and light to everyone around him. His legacy lives on in the warmth, laughter, and love he gave so freely.

Viewing will be held at Brookside Funeral Home on Thursday, August 14, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 pm.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place at St. Paul Cathedral on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 10:00 am.

Graveside Service will follow immediately at Calvary Cemetery, 1405 S 24th Ave, Yakima, WA 98902.
