Curtis Arleth, 80, of Gulfport MS, passed away on July 12, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 30, 1943 in Richmond, VA to the late Bernard & Elsie Arleth.
Curtis was a man of immense character and grace. Throughout his life, he exemplified warmth and kindness towards all those he encountered. His spirit was filled with an unwavering dedication to his loved ones, and he cherished the moments spent with them.
Preceding him in death were his beloved aunt, Giseala Johnson; as well as his dear aunts and uncles, John & Rose Cavanaugh, and Charles & May Overholtz.
A bright mind from an early age, Curtis graduated from CorJesu (Heart of Jesus) High School in New Orleans in 1961. Determined to expand his knowledge further, he pursued higher education at Louisiana State University where he excelled and earned his Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering. Following graduation, Curtis embarked on a fulfilling career at the renowned Naval Ordinance Laboratory in Maryland. When the Naval labs underwent reorganization in 1981, Curtis graciously accepted a position with Stennis Laboratory on the Gulf Coast. There, he dedicated himself wholeheartedly until his well-earned retirement in 2005.
Curtis found solace and strength through his faith at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church where he was a devout member for many years. In moments of leisure, he delved into woodworking ventures with great passion. However, nothing brought him more joy than being a devoted husband to Cecile Arleth for an astounding 58 years. Together they built a foundation rooted in love and unwavering support. Curtis also cherished the lives of his children, Christopher Arleth and Melissa Arleth, who were blessed to experience his profound guidance and love. His kind-hearted nature extended beyond his immediate family, leaving a lasting impact on countless friends and extended family members.
Visitation will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church (2414 17th Street, Gulfport MS). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 am at St. John Evangelist Catholic Church with burial to follow in Floral Hills Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Gulfport or Notre Dame Hospice.
Curtis Arleth's legacy is one of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication. The memories he leaves behind will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. As we bid farewell to Curtis, let us carry his spirit of kindness and grace with us always.
