Curtis “Butch” Lee Hjerpe passed away quietly in his sleep at home on December 01, 2023. He was 78 years old. Butch was born to Bonita (Bonnie) and Donald Hjerpe and lived in Richfield, Minnesota. After Butch graduated from Richfield High School, he joined the US Air Force serving as an airplane technician. Upon returning home, he resumed a career in the grocery industry, working as an assistant manager until his retirement 30 years later. Butch was a hard-working individual, never one to be idle, so after retiring from the grocery industry he became employed as a woodworking specialist. Even after he retired, Butch continued his passion for woodworking throughout the remainder of his life.
Butch shared a unique and special love with his wife, Virginia “Ginger” Hjerpe, his children, his grandchildren, and other family members. Butch was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, and spending time on Wall Lake. He shared this love of the outdoors with family and friends, taking time to teach his kids, grandkids, and others the joys of the great outdoors. He was a knowledgeable man who loved learning, sharing information, and discussing a variety of topics. Butch was the cornerstone of the family and could always be counted on to help figure out how to fix, build, or maintain things at home or for others. He graciously gave to all those he loved and was a constant, ever-reliable source of strength and dependability.
Butch will be lovingly remembered by: his wife Virginia “Ginger” and his children Rena (Chris) Rotegard, Rhonda (Matthew) Bohrnstedt, Robert (Michelle) Luers, Adam (Sue) Hjerpe, Eric (Jennie) Hjerpe, his 14 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and his siblings, Sue (Tim) Shaw, Ann Shaw, and Dan (Marcia) Hjerpe. His presence will be greatly missed by so many others as well!!
Butch will be interred in a private ceremony for immediate family only at Fort Snelling National Cemetery on December 29, 2023. All others are invited to attend a Celebration of Life honoring his legacy on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 12-3pm.
