Curtis Herbert Oltmann, Jr., a dedicated husband, loving father, amazing "Paw Paw", and talented guitar player gained his angel wings on March 31, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on March 15, 1935, in Brenham, TX, Curtis was a man whose life was marked by dedication, a friendly demeanor, and a loving heart, traits that endeared him to many throughout his life's journey. He married the love of his life, Mary Jane (Huebel) Oltmann on December 26, 1959 at Sacred Heart Church in La Grange, TX. He is survived by his son, Craig Edward Oltmann (& Lisa) and daughter, Sherry Lynn Pfluger; four grandchildren, Hunter Callis, Madison Oltmann, Colt Callis (& Breann), and Kyle Oltmann (& Shelbie); three great grandchildren, Korbyn Oltmann, Laykelyn Callis, and Curtis Oltmann. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Verlin Huebel, nephews Kirby Gene Oltmann, Robert Ray Huebel, Rodney Huebel, Larry Kieke, Jay Kieke, nieces Peggy Beard, Risa Huebel, and Linda Olson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis H. Oltmann, Sr. and Natalie (Schulze) Oltmann, his daughter Pamela Lynn Oltmann, his half-brother Kirby W. Oltmann, brothers-in-law Robert Huebel & Clinton Huebel, sisters-in-law Dorothy Kieke & Dolores Huebel, nephew Stanley Kieke and son-in-law James Pfluger.
Curtis was a proud graduate of Round Top/Carmine High School, where he laid the foundation for a life of hard work and service. His work ethic was evident from an early age as he began his career at Oltmann's Poultry Farm & Hatchery, working alongside his father. His commitment to his community and country was further demonstrated through his honorable service as an Army veteran during the Korean War. Curtis worked at the RC Plant and later became a well-respected manager of the New York Store in La Grange, where he worked for many years. His later years were spent helping customers at La Grange Lumber and Carmine Lumber.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Curtis was a man of many passions. A talented lead guitarist, he taught himself to play at age of 12 and went on to share his musical gifts with several bands, including the Hi-Notes, Fabulous Four, and Rabbs Prairie Band. His passion for music was only matched by his love for the great outdoors. Curtis was a successful gardener, cultivating a bountiful garden that supplied his family and friends with fresh vegetables. He also cherished the time spent with family especially fishing and hunting with his children and grandchildren, passing on his knowledge and appreciation for nature.
Those who knew Curtis will remember him for his friendly and approachable nature, always ready with a warm smile and lots of good conversations with family, friends, and even strangers. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and he was so very proud of them. You would see him and his wife, Mary at every baseball game, softball game, football game, soccer game, and track meet that Hunter, Madison, Colt and Kyle were in. Curtis' legacy is one of love and compassion. He lived a full life, touching the hearts of those around him with his generosity and spirit. His absence will be deeply felt by all who were fortunate enough to cross paths with him, but his memory will continue to inspire and comfort. As we pay tribute to Curtis Herbert Oltmann, Jr., we celebrate a life well-lived, a journey well-traveled, and a man well-loved. His story does not end with his passing, but melodies will echo in the hearts of those he leaves behind. Though he has departed from this world, the essence of who he was - a friendly, loving, and passionate soul - will forever remain with us.
Curtis's life will be honored on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, during a visitation at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations from 12pm -7pm, with family receiving visitors from 5pm-7pm and a Holy Rosary recited at 7 pm.
