Curtis "Rusty" Morgan Obituary

Visit the Lawrence Funeral Home - Moulton website to view the full obituary.

Curtis Anthony Morgan, affectionately known as "Rusty," passed away at his home on July 22, 2025, at the age of 74.

Rusty was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Mildred McKinney Morgan, and by his brother and sister-in-law, Maury Gene and Thanna Lou Morgan.

A graveside service will be held at Morris Chapel Cemetery on Friday, July 25, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., with the family hosting the service.

From an early age, Rusty displayed an extraordinary artistic gift. His creative journey began in elementary school, where he molded animals from Play-Doh with such precision and curiosity that teachers selected him for a special research project. The project involved observing and modeling the regeneration of salamander limbs-documenting their weekly growth through sculpture, a rare honor that earned collegiate recognition for someone so young.

In high school, Rusty turned his passion toward music. With a wide ranged, smooth-toned voice that drew comparisons to Robert Plant, the lead singer of Led Zeppelin, he seemed destined for a musical future. Tragically, that path was altered by a random act of violence when a brick was thrown through a car window, striking him in the face and resulting in a tracheostomy. Though the trauma changed his ability to sing, it never diminished his love for music. Rusty went on to write many original songs and mastered the guitar. A few of his compositions attracted attention from major recording artists, but true to his private nature, he chose not to release them.

Later in life, Rusty returned to visual art, this time focusing on pencil drawings. His detailed and expressive work can be seen hanging in his doctor's office in Moulton, a quiet testament to his enduring talent.

Rusty lived a humble and private life, working various maintenance jobs throughout the years. While he kept a small circle, those who knew him understood the depth of his creativity, sensitivity, and wit. He will be remembered not just for his art and music, but for his quiet strength and the authentic life he lived on his own terms.
