Our beloved husband, son, brother, father, grandfather, and great grandfather gained his angel wings and flew home on October 11, 2021. He was able to see his family and say his goodbyes to each one separately. It was hard, but it was his wishes.
Curtis (Curt) was born December 10, 1942, to Harvey Theodore Curtis Watkins and Delitha Geraldine Brown, in Tiptonville, Tennessee. He loved deeply , unconditionally and with his whole heart. Being the oldest, he always talked about his two sisters and how he felt the responsibility to be the big brother and take care of them. He was the best brother and always made them laugh. His brother came along when he was ready to join the Marine Corp. and didn't get as much of the teasing. He was a prankster and loved teasing everybody That was a part of him that never changed. He loved all of his grandkids and great grandkids. He always made them laugh. They were his pride and joy.
He enlisted in the Marine Corp with his best friend Jerry Bailey. It was a buddy package then, that you could join with a friend, and they thought they would be together the whole time. That didn't happen and they crossed each other's path one time long enough to say "Hi" to each other. Curt was always mad at Jerry because he got out early to get married and Curt spent an additional year and four months longer. It was always funny when Curt would tell the story. They have stayed best friends to the day Curt died.
He always loved sports. He coached his boys in baseball as they were growing up. He loved to support his kids and grandkids in everything they did. Whether it was baseball, football, dancing, singing, gymnastics, or any other school events, he went to as many as he could. He loved bowling until he couldn't do it anymore. His first love in life after he retired was golf. He played as much as he could. He could never get enough of it.
He married Brenda McEwen in Hawthorn, Nevada and they had two wonderful boys. They came to Utah in 1980 and worked at Defense Depot Ogden. They later divorced. He married Linda Watkins in 1999 and had 25 wonderful years together. They met on the golf course and through their dating days, golf, golf, golfed. When they decided to get married, of course it was on the golf course in Jackpot, Nevada. They married in front of their best golf friends, and then everybody golfed behind them. When they were done golfing, they had a reception in the clubhouse. They went on their honeymoon with all the same friends and golfed every day at a different course for a week. We finally got our dream house on the golf course, and he only got to enjoy three years of it.
He went through a lung transplant in 2014 and was the poster child for a few years. He was 71, one of the oldest to have a transplant. He got to go to two Transplant Olympics and won the golf medal in both of them. We were so proud of him. We had eight years of borrowed time and enjoyed and cherished every single day. In the end, his body was tired, and he went through so much and fought to continue his love of golf. Two weeks before he passed , he was able to golf 18 holes. I know he will be golfing in heaven without any more pains.
Curt is survived by his wife, Linda Watkins, his boys; Curtis II (Mary) Watkins, Paul Watkins, and two stepchildren that loved him like a father, Scott Nordberg, and Tammy (Jared) Cardon. His father, Harvey (stepmother Barbara). His father celebrated his "100th" birthday in August. His sister's; Sherry Perry, Mollie Puckett (Rob Bell) and brother, Jeff Watkins, They all live in Illinois. Sister and brother-in-law Bud (Patty Sears), brother and sister-in-law Ken (LaVee) Marlar. His grandchildren; Alicia (Tim) Sawicki, Curtis III Watkins, Ian Watkins, Caroline Doctor (Stephen Peteritas), Molly Doctor, Anna Doctor, Blake (Tess) Watkins, Tyson (Stephanie) Watkins, Keyton Nordberg, Morghan Nordberg, Alex Fernandez, Maikai Fernandez, Ashley (Shawn) Mickelsen and Tyler Cardon. His great grandchildren; Corben, Jaycee, Ryker, Brooke Lisa, Lane Wesley, Alyvia, Preston, Adrianne, Makena and Gavin, his nieces, Brynne (John) Martinez, Stephanie Grigsby, nephews, Brian Bruer, Steve Puckett, Drew (Racheal) Watkins, great nieces, Taylor (Mark) Kaszian, Morgan (Gabe) Kielhofner, Jersey, great nephews, Adam, Tim, Tyler, Devin Bruer, Johnny Martinez, his great great nieces, Aria, Brooks, and great great nephews, Kruz and Link.
He is preceded in death by his mother Geraldine Watkins, his mother-in-law Marie Mitchell and father-in-law Charles Marlar.
He will be sorely missed by the whole family and many many great friends.
Services to be held in the summer of 2022.
