Curtiss DeWitt Kirchmaier, born on December 28, 1935, and cherished father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, passed away on Thursday, September, 11, 2025, at age 89 leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and dedication. He was a lifelong Rochester resident attending Marshall High School and University of Rochester who lived many years in Charlotte and Webster. A man of many talents and passions, he loved anything to do with history and developed a love of animals especially his cats, Rambo and Furrball.
Dee enjoyed a long and fulfilling career as a Kodak engineer, dedicating over 40 years to his profession. Known for his hardworking demeanor, he approached every task with the utmost devotion, exemplifying a work ethic that many admired. A man of great energy and sarcasm, Dee was always ready with a joke or a light-hearted story that could bring a smile to anyone's face. His personality shone through in all aspects of his life. He had a boundless enthusiasm for all sports, particularly swimming, soccer, skiing, softball, tennis and wrestling. He had a whistle that was a "call to home" and could be heard blocks away. He loved the outdoors and spent many hours tending his lawn and gardens along with inside interests such as making "papa toast" for anyone who asked.
Dee’s fond memories include joyful moments spent traveling. There were many trips to Europe, the Caribbean and all over the United States. He loved spending time with his family, finding the greatest fulfillment in their company. He is survived by his sons, Curt (Claire) and Brian (Patricia) Kirchmaier; and his daughter, Lynne (Patrick) Cavanagh. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren, Curt (Wendy), Chris (Angela), Colin (Krystle), Tia (Katie), Caitlyn (Heinrich), MacKenzie (Kevin) and Tommy. He also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren, Elise, Justine, Grace, Penelope, Layla, Colin, Waverly and Mia along with friends who love him dearly.
Dee will be remembered not just for his achievements and skills, but for the extraordinary impact he had on those around him. He enriched the lives of everyone who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
