Cynthia Geller Obituary
SALEM – Ms. Cynthia A. Geller (77) of Salem, passed away on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at home with her family by her side.
Born, raised, and educated in Detroit, MI, Cyndi was the daughter of the late Samuel and Evelyn (Naftaly) Geller.
Cyndi founded the Detroit Theater Guild when she was 16 years old, producing a series of one act plays before being accepted to the University of Michigan theater and drama program.
Cyndi left college early to pursue her acting career in New York City. Besides acting roles, she was twice a winner on the $10,000 Pyramid TV game show. She completed her formal education at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, a city that remained dear to her heart.
Cyndi's talent, vibrant personality, and tenacity gained her numerous stage roles, including Fanny Brice in Funny Girl, Mrs. Peachum in Threepenny Opera, and Gorgeous Titlebaum in Sisters Rosensweig. She played Ida Rosenthal, the inventor of the modern brassiere, in the TV film They Made America.
She starred in the computer game series Inspector Cyndi in Newport, did voice overs on the Here Comes the Duck! computer game for infants who are blind, and narrated the Visit Salem travelogue.
Her YouTube channel, Cyndi on Tuesday, had several performance videos in the top third of YouTube views, including Hello Wall from Shirley Valentine.
She was a professional singer, caroled during the Holidays, and aided awareness as a Standardized Patient in medical school courses.
During a break from acting, Cyndi co-founded the New England Women's Jewelry Association.
Cyndi was a political activist, raising funds for Emily's List, campaigning for Democrats in Salem, and managing a polling place on election day.
Cyndi co-founded the Northey Street Co-Op, an intentional family of aging hippies that has lasted over 30 years. She was generous with her time and resources and a true and loyal friend. She lit up a room when she entered. She made this world a brighter and better place.
Cyndi is survived by her life partner of 43 years, John Bannick of Salem; her sister, Michelle Geller and husband, James Chrystal of Arlington Heights, IL; niece, Lizzie Martino and grandnephew, Nolan Martino of Chicago; extended family, and friends.
