PEABODY - Mr. Richard M. "Richie" Lander, 65 of Peabody, beloved husband of Collette (O'Connell) Lander, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, September 15, 2025 at Lahey Medical Center, Burlington with his beloved wife by his side.
Born in Salem, he was the son of Sally E. Lander. He was raised and educated in Salem and attended Salem public schools.
Richard spent his life dedicated to his community reflective his role as Maintenance Supervisor for the City of Salem for many years and later working for the Maintenance Department in Peabody for several years. During this time, he was also self-employed installing drywall, a talent he was very proud of. Richard along with his wife Collette were long-time crossing guards in Salem where he looked forward to his daily interactions with children and parents alike and took the safety of all the children in his charge very seriously.
A loving husband, to Collette and a cherished son to his mother Sally, Richie, was always there to support his family. He worked hard every day to provide for his family and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed help. Richie's zest for life shone through his many interests. He was a former member of the Beverly Italian Community Club where he fostered many friendships. He was an avid sports fan, especially his beloved New England Patriots. He also delighted in playing golf and riding his motorcycle, embracing the open road and the thrill of adventure. Richie will be remembered for his big heart, his love for family and his love of dogs, especially Harley, Lexi and Riley whom he lovingly cared for over the years and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Surviving Richie is his wife Collette Lander of Peabody and his mother Sally Lander of Salem.
ARRANGEMENTS: Relatives and friends are invited to his funeral service which will be held at O'Donnell Cremations – Funerals – Celebrations, 84 Washington Sq. (at Salem Common) SALEM on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11AM. Burial in Greenlawn Cemetery, Salem. A visiting hour will be held, prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM.
