Cynthia Geneva Stevenson Hammond (94) ~~ Daughter, Sister, Mom, Aunt, Maw Maw~~ of Chestnut, Louisiana was welcomed home into the loving arms of Jesus with family by her side on April 28, 2025 in Coushatta, Louisiana. She was born to Henry Ezra and Georgia (Pierce) Stevenson on February 17, 1931 in Chestnut, Louisiana.
A 1948 graduate of Readhimer High School in Readhimer, Louisiana, Cynthia loved her home, family, gardening, and her cats, eventually allowing her last Cat to visit her inside her home. No other had been allowed to venture inside her doors. She was a very loving, independent, hard-working, strong-willed lady until the very end. Cynthia was a member of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in Campti, Louisiana.
Cynthia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Stanley E. Hammond; siblings, Dezilee Pepper, J.R. Stevenson, Ruth Sweet, Luvenia Friday, and Henry Stevenson; son, Joseph (Joe) Hammond; grandsons, Stephen & Stanley Bandy, and Anthony Scott; granddaughters, Sandra Marie Hammond and Tiaré Hammond; great-grandson, Timothy Hammond; daughters-in-laws Anne Thomas Hammond, Gerry Burleigh Hammond, and Carolyn Sue Weber Hammond.
Those remaining to cherish their memories of her are her sister, Ruey Stewart; children, John Hammond, Yvonne (Yvie) Bandy, Robért Hammond (Sandy), Paul Hammond, Cindy Foss (David), and William Hammond; 15 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends.
Visitation will be held at Rockett-Nettles Funeral Home in Coushatta on Friday, May 2, 2025 from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a Rosary at 7:00 P.M. The Funeral Mass will be held at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Campti, Louisiana on Saturday, May 3, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Robért Hammond, Eric Hammond, Joseph (Joey) Hammond, James (Jamie) Hammond, Jeffrey Hammond, and Scott Hammond.
