Ms. Cynthia Shells, affectionately known as "Simp", departed life in her home on July 30, 2025. She was born on November 16, 1960 in Newberry, SC, a daughter of the late Elbert Shells, Jr. and Ella Mae Coe Shells. She was reared in a loving home by her aunt and uncle, the late Mr. Joe Caldwell and Mrs. Dorothy Mae Shells Caldwell in Queens, New York.
After graduating from Springfield Garden High School in NYC, she graduated from Benedict College and moved to Atlanta GA where she lived for 28 years. She retired from Equitable Insurance as a Financial Analyst. After retirement she moved to Newberry, SC in 2007.
Her grandmother, Mrs. Willie Mae Shells and her brother, Alonzo E. Shells all preceded her to heaven.
Those who celebrate her life and cherish loving memories includes her only son, Byron Lance Weldon; four grandchildren, Bryce, Nova, Alani, and Kali Weldon; sisters, Minister Ella Marie Glasgow(Wyman), Valerie Vine-Shells, and Sylvia Fleming; brothers, Elbert Shells III and Ricky Shells; nieces, Kaliberty Taylor, Shani Shells, Ashly Jackson, Angela Weldon, Natasha Froelich, and Lonzette Shells; nephews, Terrence Wicker, Patrick Epps, Daniel Childress, and Lovell Vines; loving cousins, James Gary and Dorsey Gary from Washington, DC; devoted friends, Wesley Riddick, Janice Davis, and Sherwood Rutherford; a host of other relatives and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, August 7, 2025 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel. Public viewing will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at the Fred B. Pratt Memorial Chapel.
