Cyril "Cy" Aloysius Quinn, Jr. passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025

Cyril lived a life defined by his kindness, humility, strong faith, love of running, and devotion to his family. Cyril was the epitome of a true gentleman, always willing to share his time and talents with others.

Cyril was born in New Orleans, LA on October 26, 1934, to the late Cyril Aloysius Quinn, Sr. and the late Kathryn Paul Quinn. Cyril lived in the neighborhoods of Gentilly and New Orleans East, before moving to Metairie after his retirement. Cyril is survived by and was a devoted caretaker for his sister Brenda Quinn until his death.

Cyril attended St. James Major Elementary School and graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1953. After graduation Cyril went on to attend Loyola University in New Orleans for 2 years studying Business Administration. While studying at Loyola University, Cyril felt a call to serve his country and enlisted in the United States Marine Corps, serving our nation honorably for 5 years.

After leaving the U.S. Marine Corps Cyril had a long, fulfilling career at the USDA National Finance Center in New Orleans for over 40 years before retiring. Cyril's strong work ethic, kindness, and willingness to always help his colleagues gained him a reputation for being the guy you could always depend on to get the job done. This hard-working reputation earned Cyril the nickname "Slack" for being ever ready to pick up the slack for any colleague in need. During his time working at the USDA Cyril made lifelong friends, many of whom shared his passion for running. Cyril and his many work friends enjoyed participating in the company track team and other team sports that competed against different companies around New Orleans. Cyril's love for running led him to start the "Slack Track Club" so he and his likeminded friends could enjoy running all year long together.

Cyril's passion for running led him to become a founding member and past treasurer of the New Orleans Track Club and was inducted into their 2013 Inaugural Hall of Fame class. Cyril again made lifelong friends during his 60 plus years as a member of the NOTC. Cyril was well known to have an encyclopedic knowledge of distance running and track and field statistics, often able to recite the individual accomplishments and race times of elite athletes from around the world. When Cyril was not running or immersed in the statistics of running, he enjoyed photography and taking pictures of his friends at the races during the year. Cyril was a regular volunteer at countless road races, Olympic trials, and youth track meets throughout his life; he loved giving back to the sport that he felt gave him so much joy.

Cyril's love of track and field competitions and his fondness for travel led him to attend three summer Olympic games in Japan in 1964, Mexico in 1968 and West Germany in 1972 joyfully documenting each trip with countless photographs. Cyril also travelled to many other countries capturing memories of his trips with pictures and always remembering to bring home souvenirs to friends and family.

After moving to Metairie, Cyril worked at Phidippides Shoe Store again making lots of friends sharing his knowledge of running with customers and employees alike.

Cyril was a faithful parishioner of St. Ann Catholic Church in Metairie where he attended mass with his sister Brenda.

Cyril will be dearly missed by all who knew him, especially the friends he made throughout the years at the USDA, the NOTC and in his neighborhood; the gang on Rye Street, the regulars and employees at Panera Bread, and the employees at Gulf Coast Bank. Cyril's family and friends would like to thank the employees of Henican House in Metairie who patiently cared for him this last year of his life.

Friends are invited to celebrate Cyril's life on Thursday November 20, 2025, at Garden of Memories Funeral Home located at 4900 Airline Drive, Metairie, LA. The visitation will begin at 10:00 am followed by a Catholic Mass and burial at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers Cyril requests donations to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
