Melvin J. Lacrouts, Jr., affectionately known as "Grumps" to those who knew him, passed away peacefully on November 15, 2025, at the age of 69, in
Metairie, LA. Born on November 12, 1956, in New Orleans, LA, Melvin's life was one of passion, dedication, and joy, which he shared generously with everyone around him.
Melvin is survived by his love of 27 years, Bridget Simpson. He was a loving father to Christi Siravo (Tom), Melvin J. Lacrouts III (Alyssa), and Rivers M. Lacrouts, and a doting grandfather to Alyssa, Mason, and Miles. He was the son of the late Melvin Lacrouts, Sr. and the late Barbara Ann Lacrouts, and a caring brother to Kenny Lacrouts, Danny Lacrouts (Lisa), Mary Bordes (Mike), Kay Lemoine, and the late Dennis Lacrouts (Mary Beth). His extended family of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews will remember him fondly for his playful spirit and enduring love.
A proud graduate of Bonnabel High School in 1977, Melvin's athletic prowess was evident early on. He played both baseball and basketball in high school and continued to showcase his talents in men's softball leagues. His leadership and ability on the field were recognized in 1989 when he was inducted into the GNOAL Hall of Fame, a testament to his sportsmanship and skill.
Melvin's professional life was marked by his tenure as a top salesman at Kentwood Springs Water, where his charisma and dedication earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues. Later, he brought his remarkable work ethic and infectious personality to Willwork Inc., where he was deeply loved and admired.
Beyond his professional and athletic accomplishments, Melvin was a man of many interests. He was an avid fan of the New Orleans Saints, and tailgating at LSU games was among his favorite pastimes. His love for golf was twofold; he enjoyed playing just as much as he relished watching the sport. Melvin's passion for travel often intertwined with his love for baseball, as he made it a point to visit MLB parks across the country. However, the joy of his life was spending time with his family, who brought him immeasurable happiness.
Melvin's legacy is one of love, laughter, and the ability to make every moment count with his great sense of humor. His presence was a gift to all who had the pleasure of knowing him, and his memory will be treasured in the hearts of his family and friends forever. Melvin J. Lacrouts, Jr.'s life was a beautiful tapestry of the relationships he nurtured, the games he played, and the lives he touched. He will be profoundly missed, but the stories of "Grumps" will continue to inspire and comfort those who were blessed to be part of his extraordinary journey.
