Dakota "Cody" Alexander Beard, 31, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025, at his residence. He was born on December 10, 1993, in Huntington, WV, to the beloved parents, Brian Beard and Lisa Miller Beard, both of Grayson. Dakota was preceded in death by his grandparents, Jimmy and Ruth Miller; and Jerry Cart.
A dedicated sprinkler fitter with Local 669, Dakota was employed by Twin Lakes of Lexington, KY. Known for his adventurous spirit, he was an avid hunter and motorcycle enthusiast, forever drawn to the great outdoors. Dakota's love for adventure extended to traveling and experiencing new cultures, alongside a passion for collecting guns and knives.
Dakota leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories in the hearts of many. He is survived by his three sons, Ruger Alexander Beard, Adam Mabry, and Zack Mabry; three brothers, Dalton (Emilee) Beard of Grayson and Shawn (Brittany) Bocook and Landyn Bocook both of Olive Hill; two sisters, Whitney Bocook of Olive Hill and Tammy Proctor of Spring Valley, WV; his maternal grandmother Linda Cart of Grayson; and his common law wife, Melissa Stephens. He will also be deeply missed by his nieces, Brynlee, Remi, and Braylee; aunts and uncles, Sarah (Mike) Kinney of Lakeland, FL, Marty (Rhonda) Miller and Janet Miller both of Grayson; James Miller, and Helen Wallen; as well as numerous cousins, Lane (Mallory) Denisen, Tommy Wallen, Jimmy Wallen, Levi Miller, Jamie Miller, Alisha Miller, Tawnee Tackett, Jennifer (Herbie) Hicks, Talon Kinney, Austin Kinney, Summer Kinney, Phillip Lee Berry, Shannon Burton and Hollyann Miller and a host of friends who mourn his untimely passing.
Funeral services will take place at 1 PM on Friday, November 21, 2025, at the Malone Funeral Home in Grayson, with Bro. Steven Scott officiating. Burial will follow in the Beard Family Cemetery. Friends and family are invited to visit from 6 PM to 9 PM on Thursday, and after 11 AM on Friday until the service hour. Condolences may be expressed online at www.malonefuneralhome.com.
Pallbearers honored to serve include Dalton Beard, Shawn Bocook, Isaac Salyer, Brandon Sullivan, Adam Mabry, and Landyn Bocook. Honorary pallbearers will be Zack Mabry, Dean Boarders, Recole Stephens, Talon Kinney, Austin Kinney and Lane Miller.
Dakota's vibrant spirit, passion for life, and deep love for his family and friends will forever be remembered. He touched the lives of many and leaves behind a legacy of adventure and affection that will continue to inspire those who knew him.
