Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duffy-Poule Funeral & Cremation Services - Attleboro on Mar. 1, 2026.
Dale Edward Byers, better known as Odie to his family and friends, passed away at the age of 77 on February 20, 2026.

Dale was born on July 18, 1948, the 5th son to Robert Calvin Byers and Beatrice (Shellenburg) Byers in Harrisburg, PA. After his mother's passing in 1963, he was adopted by William and Gail Guiterrez. He grew up in Camp Hill, PA and graduated from William Penn High School in 1966. While he was in high school, he taught dance at Gail's studio and was a member of the cheerleading squad. In 1969, he enlisted in the United States Navy, where he served in the Seabees during the Vietnam War. While in the Seabees, he received the Vietnam Service Medal, The Vietnam Campaign Medal, The National Defense Service Medal, a Combat Action Ribbon, and The Vietnam Civil Action Medal (2nd class). Dale was Honorably Discharged in 1973, and he moved to North Attleboro, MA.

He found work with the Roncap Company for many years before going to Wentworth College to pursue his teaching degree. He taught briefly at Tri-County Vocational Technical School before transferring to the Cabinetry shop at Attleboro High School. He was a proud advisor to the AHS VICA (Vocational Industrial Club of America) chapter and accompanied many students to competitions. Odie retired from Attleboro High School in 2008.

Odie leaves behind his wife Laurie (Gauthier) Byers of Attleboro, his daughters Heidi Marini and her husband Larry of North Attleboro, Heather Silvestri of Plainville, and Jessica Ballance and her husband Shane of Attleboro. He also leaves 8 grandchildren, Hadley, Briar and Callan Marini, Hannah and Hunter Silvestri, and Morgan, Dakota and Cameron Ballance. He is predeceased by his parents, his foster parents, and his brothers Robert Jr., Russel, Wayne and John.

"Odie" Byers stood as a titan of vocational education, a man whose impact went far beyond the just a few years of the woodworking shop. To his students, he wasn´t just an instructor; he was a mentor who carried a rare, "old-school" brand of dedication that is all too scarce in the modern classroom. He possessed the innate ability to see the latent potential in every student, treating them not as test scores or numbers, but with the genuine care one would show their own children. Whether it was helping a student master a complex dovetail joint, preparing a student for a VICA competition during after school hours or offering a steadying word of encouragement during a rough patch in life, Odie´s classroom became a sanctuary of character development, where the discipline of the craft mirrored the discipline required for a life well-lived.
His personality was as rich and enduring as the hardwoods he taught his students to shape, characterized by a warmth and humor that made going the extra mile feel like a natural part of the journey. Odie lived by the principle that if a job was worth doing, it was worth doing with excellence, and he led by example, never asking a student to perform a task he hadn´t mastered himself. By investing his time, his patience, and his heart into generations of youth, he didn´t just teach them how to build furniture; he built men and women of integrity. The lessons learned under his guidance-the importance of precision, the virtue of hard work, and the weight of a promise kept-have left a lasting impression on countless lives, ensuring that his legacy is anchored firmly in the character of those he mentored for years to come.
