Dale Christenson. Sr., passed away Friday, August 9, 2024 at 2:00AM in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa, OK.
Dale was born October 13, 1936 in Alva, OK to Claude and Helen (Lyon) Christenson. Dale had two sisters, Ann Goad, who preceded him, and Sue Mitchell of Broken Arrow, OK. His parents also predeceased him.
Dale's dad had cattle trucks and Dale grew up helping his dad in his business. Dale attended school at Burbank, OK, where he excelled as a "shooter" on the basketball team. After his graduation, the family moved to Pawhuska, where he met Helen Lee Johnson. They grew in love and married March 18, 1956 at Pawhuska First Christian Church. To the marriage were born Dale Christenson, Jr., Ben Alan Christenson and Larry Lee Christenson.
Dale was a family man and never missed any Indian Camp Warrior basketball game. Likewise, as his boys attended Pawhuska High School, Dale never missed a Pawhuska High basketball game. He was a University of Oklahoma football fan. He loved to compete in calf ropings, team ropings and competed in Cheyenne Frontier Days steer roping. He also loved horse racing and always owned horses. Dale raised cattle until his health prevented. He managed finance companies, co-owned D & G Trucking, and owned and operated Bluestem Ford in Pawhuska.
Dale helped with the Cavalcade and served as Director. He was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church of Pawhuska and served as Senior Warden.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; sons Dale, Jr., and wife, Bonnie; Ben, Larry and wife, Amanda; sister, Sue Mitchell; 6 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
He will be missed by all of us, as well as by his friends and relatives.
Services will be held Monday, August 19, 10:00AM, at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, Pawhuska. Father Kevin Huddleston will officiate. Interment will be in the Pawhuska City Cemetery.
Family and friends are invited to lunch following the services at St. Thomas Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials to St. Thomas Episcopal Church, 817 Leahy, Pawhuska, OK 74056 OR St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
