Dale D. Dassow, age 90, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, died Sunday, February 11, 2024, at home surrounded by family.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00AM on Friday, February 16, 2024, at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Wisconsin Rapids. Rev. Robert Schaller will officiate. Visitation will be held from 9:00AM until the time of service.
Dale was born April 1, 1933, in Marshfield, WI to Elmer and Clara (Casper) Dassow. He married Vernell Helen Herman on October 18, 1952, at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church. They celebrated 71 years of marriage and together raised six children.
After high school graduation, Dale went to work at Consolidated Papers Inc. Dale held various positions during that time. He started in the shipping department and after completing a 4-year indentureship, he became a millwright. Dale gained journeyman status in 1964. In 1966 Dale was promoted to maintenance planner.
In 1973 Dale was promoted to maintenance coordinator and retired from that position in 1991. Dale was the recording secretary of machinists Lodge 655 and an active member of the Catholic order of Foresters. He also was in Boy Scouts of America with his sons and received the Order of the Arrow. He was also a volunteer fireman for the town of Grand Rapids.
He was an avid walleye fisherman and deer hunter. He enjoyed playing cards, especially sheepshead. After retirement, Dale and Vernell traveled the United States extensively and had numerous adventures in their motorhome.
Dale is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart Vernell; sons, Donald (Lois) Dassow, Alan (Diane) Dassow, and Jeffrey (Tammy) Dassow; daughters, Diane (Mark) Vidal, Elizabeth (Brian) Weigand, and Kathleen (Steven) Liederbach; brother, Rodney (Teri) Dassow; sister-in-law, Lucille Dassow; brother in law, Paul Herman; grandchildren, Scott (Suzanne) Dassow, Jason (Jill) Dekarske, David (Aekta) Dassow, William (Ashley) Dassow, Benjamin (Adrienne) Dekarske, Nicholas Dassow, Angela Dassow, Justin Dassow, Tyler (Amanda) Dekarske, Bret (Katlyn) Liederbach, Jenna (Brent) Self, Andrew (Kristan Schaack) Dassow, Zachary (Ashley) Weigand, Darin Liederbach, Mike (Carrie) Vidal, Andrew (Mashael) Vidal, Jamie Vidal, Tanya (Andrew) Dunaj, and Tracy (Joe) Ostrander; great grandchildren, Maxwell, Samuel, Dylan, Alyssa, Clara, Ethan, Harrison, Katherine, Landon, Logan, Liam, Korey, Rose, Clayton, Cameron, Dawson, Kinley, Rayna, Kaden, Alex, Tianna, Gavin, Erin, Savannah, and Matthew; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elmer (Irene) Dassow and Clara (Vincent) Freund; brother and sister-in-law, Edgar (Florence) Dassow, and brother, Robert Dassow.
The family would like to thank the staff at Wellington Place in Whiting and the staff at Heartland Hospice for the wonderful care that was given.
