Damon Lee Preast, 68, of Newport, North Carolina, passed away on Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Carteret Health Care.
A graveside service to honor Damon’s life will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, May 3rd at Amariah Garner Cemetery in Newport. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and following the service.
Damon was born on March 6, 1957, in Savannah, Georgia, to the late William and Hazel Preast. He dedicated much of his life to hard work and community. Damon spent over 30 years as an aircraft mechanic at Fleet Readiness Center East, where he was known for his skill and strong work ethic. In addition to his career, he was the proud owner and operator of Country Road Mobile Home Park in Newport for more than 35 years, providing a welcoming space for friends and families alike.
Aside from his hard work, Damon was an accomplished banjo player and most evenings you could find him pickin’ and not always grinnin’. In his younger years, he earned a reputation as a respected pool player. He also enjoyed woodworking, spending hours building furniture by hand, and spending time fishing. Damon will be remembered for his kind heart, strong hands, and the love he showed to family and friends.
Those remaining to cherish his memory are his daughters, Laura Whitney (Alan) of New Bern, North Carolina, Michelle Preast of Newport, North Carolina; brother, Marvin Edward Preast of Kissimmee, Florida; sisters, Carol Sue Augustus of Goldsboro, North Carolina, Bonnie Jean Koylu of New Bern, North Carolina; grandson, Tyler Dilbeck of Newport, North Carolina; friend and neighbor, Jeanette Luker of Newport, North Carolina; 4 nieces and 3 nephews.
In addition to his parents, Damon was preceded in death by his son, Adam William Preast; brother, Rex F. Preast; and grandson, Ebin Blake Dilbeck.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hope Recovery Homes, 1209 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557.
