Dan Dilday Obituary

Publish in a newspaper

Dan Lee Dilday, a beloved father and cherished friend, passed away peacefully in his home on October 8, 2025, at the age of 69. Born on June 15, 1956, in Norfolk, Virginia, Dan's life was a tapestry woven with personal achievements and deep connections with those he loved.
Dan is survived by his devoted daughter, Samantha (Sam) Dilday, whom he cherished with all his heart, her husband, Brett DiMatteo, his loving sister, Connie Murden, her husband, Wayne Murden, their sons, Ryan and Kyle Murden, and his nephew Shawn Coons. His memory also lives on in his extended family and a plethora of friends including Steve Southerland and his daughter, Sarah Southerland, Rob and Jennifer Williams, Travis and Jennifer Romine, and each person he emotionally touched at his local hangout spot, Jose Tequilas. He was preceded in death by his beloved ex-wife, Susan Southerland, his father and mother, Daniel and Leitha Dilday, his brother, Eddie Dilday, and his sister and her husband, Bonita and Irwin Coons.
Dan graduated from Bayside High School in Virginia Beach and began working in computer security in different industries. Though Dan worked in computer technology including many years at Bank of America, his true passion was having fun. Dan held his pilot's license and would reminisce about being up in the clouds. While raising his daughter, he and Susan would take Sam to Disney World and he returned numerous times throughout his life, keeping his inner child alive.
He would travel to tropical locations with his "Cool Peeps", sharing in laughter and drinks by the pool. He took pleasure in relaxing and was always looking for a time to tell a "Dad joke". A typical day for Dan consisted of napping, talking with his daughter, spending time with friends, and, of course, having a margarita. His humor and generosity made him an unforgettable friend and father. If you asked Dan what he was most proud of, he would say his daughter. His devotion to fatherhood was unmatched and he would say Samantha was truly the best of him.
As friends, family, and colleagues prepare to honor Dan's life and legacy, a funeral service will be held on October 27, 2025, at Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Princess Anne Chapel (3445 Princess Anne Rd, Virginia Beach) at 10:00 am. All who knew Dan are invited to join in celebrating the life of a man who touched so many with his kindness, humor, and unyielding spirit.
In this moment of reflection, let us remember Dan for his generosity, his laughter, and the profound impact he had on those around him. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who loved him.
