Dan W. Phillips passed away at his home in Franklin, Indiana on September 10, 2025. Dan was born on February 19, 1951 and raised in Indianapolis by his parents Richard and Dorice Phillips, where he graduated from Warren Central High School in 1969. After High School, he served his country in the United States Air Force. A few years after exiting the service, he became employed at General Electric where he remained for 27 years. He was married to Kathie Phillips May 28, 1983, spending 42 loving years by her side.
Even as a child Dan brought light everywhere he went, from little league baseball games, to simply roaming the city with his friends. Throughout his childhood Dan maintained a passion for playing the drums, often loading his favorite albums into the family's Hi-Fi system to play along with. This passion even followed him to his teenage job at Dairy Queen, where he worked alongside his siblings and friends. He loved being surrounded by his friends and family regardless of the activity, whether it happened to be boating and camping, going to the track, or just sitting in front of the T.V. He was also an avid fan of cooking, constantly trying new, and sometimes original recipes. Dan was a fun-loving man who cared immensely, loved deeply, and knew how to not take life too seriously.
Dan is survived by his wife, Kathie Phillips; his daughters Jennifer (Michael) Camp, Dani (Tyler Ray) Wernert; his grandchildren, Tyler (Sarah) Smallman, Caleb Camp, Charolette and Lincoln Wernert; his great grandson Dylan Sichting; and his siblings Kay Morris and Scott Phillips. He is preceded in death by his brother Mark (Yvonne) Phillips. The viewing will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025, from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 2 p.m. at Jessen Funeral Home in Whiteland, Indiana (729 N. U.S. Hwy 31 Whiteland, IN 46184). His final resting place will be at the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Cemetery in Waverly, Indiana.
