DOUGLAS, MASSACHUSETTS

Dan, known as "the Lion " to his family and friends, was a lifelong avid fan of NASCAR. He never missed a race on TV and was proud to attend many of the major NASCAR series races, year after year, religiously. At 12:25AM, Monday, September 8, 2025, Daniel Stewart Shurick peacefully completed his own race and earned his checkered flag, after a determined effort against declining health. He was 73 years old.

A lifelong resident of Douglas, Dan was raised in the family home where he would reside his entire life. From an early age, he developed a passion for cars and all things automotive. Along with friends, Dan enjoyed wrenching on their cars and creating legendary stories and memories, many of which stemmed from his own fearless actions. With his sharp eye and steady hand, he perfected his skills in automotive refinishing. Dan owned and operated Dan's Auto Repair on Route 16 in Douglas for more than 20 years, and even after retirement, he continued to be sought after for his trusted repair work.

Beyond his love of cars, he found joy in caring for and maintaining his home, a commitment he would continue up to the time of his death. True to his nature, Dan was always straightforward, never hesitating to share his thoughts on any topic at hand.

Among those surviving Dan are his wife, Cynthia A. (Richard) Shurick, and their two sons, Jonathan Shurick of East Providence, RI, and Timothy Shurick of Douglas. Dan was predeceased by his parents, Charles and Beatrice (Stewart) Shurick, and by his siblings, Iris Towle, Cynthia Hughes, Charlene Cove, and Jeffrey Shurick.

In accordance with his wishes, Dan will be laid to rest privately in Evergreen Cemetery, Douglas. There are no public services planned at this time.

Arrangements are under the care of Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, Northborough, MA 01532. To leave an online condolence for Dan's family, please visit www.HaysFuneralHome.com.
