Dana Smith Huskey of Clyde, NC, beloved wife and daughter, passed away at her home on January 20, 2025. After a brave battle with cancer, she proved herself to be a courageous and true fighter.
Laughter and light were with her everywhere she went. She loved shopping and spending time with her mother and aunt as well as hiking and enjoying nature with her husband, father, and friends. Music was a big part of her life, attending concerts and singing hymns of praise. Dana simply loved how music made her feel. Dana was also an avid lover of all animals. Her position as a letter carrier with the Clyde US Postal Service was a point of pride and accomplishment for her and she counted many friends among her co-workers.
Dana is survived by her husband, Eric Huskey; her parents, Lorrie and Willard "Lee" Smith, Jr. and in-laws Terry and Jane Huskey; brother-in-law, Wes Huskey; and niece Mackenzie Huskey. Particularly dear to her heart are her Aunt Mindi Hooper and husband Richie, their sons Cannon and Carver; as well as her cousin, Marissa Gail Smith-Crow. In addition are Dana's maternal grandfather, Calvin “Pappy” Guffey and wife Anne; paternal grandmother “Mama” Gail Smith; uncles, Chuck Guffey and wife Kathy, Jeff Smith and wife Patricia, and Thomas Jenkins and wife Hailey; aunts Charleen Smith Galloway and husband Carl, and Meg Stubblefield and husband James, as well as many more cousins, and friends who were like family to Dana.
Preceding Dana in death are her paternal grandfather, Willard Smith Sr.; maternal grandmother, Elizabeth Guffey; and aunt, Renee Smith.
A memorial service to celebrate and honor the life of Dana Smith Huskey will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 2, 2025 at the Canton Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Pastor Leland Holland officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. prior to the service.
