Daniel Peter Alexander III, 66, passed away peacefully on June 10, 2024, in East Lansing, Michigan. He was born on October 9, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan, to Daniel and Irene Alexander. He graduated from Lansing Everett High School in 1975 and graduated with a Bachelor's Degree in Communication from Michigan State University in 1981. Dan married Alice Berry on May 12, 1990, at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas. They married surrounded by a small group of friends and family and, in true Las Vegas-style, an Elvis impersonator.
Dan was a Lansing-area native through and through. Some of his fondest childhood memories occurred in the area: sledding at Sycamore Golf Course on Mount Hope Avenue, ice skating at Washington Park, playing tennis at Clifford Park, and swimming at the downtown YMCA on Friday nights for "family night" with his dad, mom, and older sister.
He took great pride in many things, including his father's drug store, Alexander Drug, which was located in downtown East Lansing. He often reminisced about working behind the counter with his dad and sister, interacting with customers, and spending time there. He was also a proud cyclist, competing in road bicycling races beginning in 1975.
Dan had many roles in his life, including husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, but his proudest role was being a father. He was involved in every stage of his daughters' lives, from helping out with the high school marching band to recording times during their swim meets. Even when they went away to college, he was just a text message away and would always ask, "Good day, baby?" He was supportive, patient, and loving and taught them they could accomplish anything they set their minds to.
One of Dan's greatest qualities was his willingness to help people. Whether fixing a friend's computer or helping a stranger find their car in the grocery store parking lot, he did it out of the kindness of his heart. He truly was an amazing man who will be missed by many. His spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of friends and family.
Dan is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Alice; twin daughters Quinn (Andrew) Redick and Danielle (Marc) Kohler; older sister Judy (Mike) Calhoun; granddaughter Adalind; and several nieces and nephews.
To honor Dan's wishes, his family has decided not to hold a service. Instead, his family asks that you share a memory and photos of him on this page. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association.
