Daniel E. Carlock, Sr. -- 94, of Jensen Beach, Fla. died Tuesday, Aug. 6, at Tiffany Hall in Port St. Lucie. Growing up in a military family, Dan lived in several states prior to settling in Martin County in the 1950s. He was a graduate of Riverside Military Academy and Florida Atlantic University. Dan enjoyed a wide variety of work experiences: cattle ranching, working as an engineering aide at Pratt & Whitney, real estate sales and appraisal and owning several businesses, including a heavy-brush clearing service. He was best known as the owner of Carlock Concrete Company, a precast and ornamental concrete business on A1A in Stuart, from the mid-1970s through the mid-2000s. Later, he was active as an adult leader for the local Boy Scouts. In his later life, Dan joined his wife in the Treasure Coast Exotic Bird Club. He was a founding parishioner of St. Martin de Porres Catholic Church in Jensen Beach and a member of the Knights of Columbus and Holy Name Society. He helped in pancake breakfast kitchens and called bingo games. For more than 20 years, he was active in prison ministry outreach. His survivors include sons Daniel Jr. of Newport Beach, Calif.; Floyd of Pembroke Pines; Michael of Orlando; daughter Lisa of Stuart; two grandchildren: Kevin and Kaylin; and sister Mary Louise Brorein of Brevard, N.C. He is predeceased by his loving wife Bernice, his parents COL and Mrs. Floyd Carlock, and brother Floyd.
