Daniel C. Carney, Sr., 98, of New Castle passed away the morning of January 10, 2026 at Quality Life Services of New Castle.
Daniel was born on September 12, 1927 to the late Carl and Mary (Mooney) Carney. He later married his beloved wife, the former Leonarda M. (Lou) Arcuri. She preceded him in death on November 9, 2004.
A proud patriot, Daniel honorably served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. He later founded the New Castle Area Honor Guard, whose members continue to remember and honor those who have served in the community. Dan was also a member of the American Legion for 69 years and a member of the Tin Can Sailors. Dan was a member of Holy Spirit Parish, St. Vitus Church for many years. He was an electrician who first worked for Marino Electric and then owned Carney Electric with his sons. Dan enjoyed woodworking, writing, and working in the warehouse of Carney Electric. Most of all he enjoyed the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren of whom he was very proud.
Daniel is survived by his sons, Carl, Daniel, Jr., and Michael (Denise) Carney, his grandson, Michael (Kelly) Carney, four step-grandchildren, great-granddaughter, Mara and step-great grandson, Colin with whom he was very close.
In addition to his parents and wife, Daniel was preceded in death by his brothers, Gerald and Martin Carney; sisters, Josephine Esposito and Louise Nerti; and daughter-in-law, Mary Carney.
Visitation will be held at Ed and Don DeCarbo Funeral Home, 941 S. Mill St on Tuesday, January 13 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. The New Castle Area Honor Guard will perform Military Rites followed immediately by a Blessing Service at 6 p.m. officiated by Deacon John Carran of Holy Spirit Parish. Interment will be at Parkside Cemetery.
The family wishes to extend their appreciation to the staff at Quality Life Services of New Castle for their excellent care.
