Celebration of Life will be from 3:00 p.m.- 6:00 p.m., Friday, January 9, 2026 at Miller Funeral Home in Fridley for Daniel “Dan” J. Ashlin, age 75, who passed away suddenly on Friday, December 19, 2025 at Mercy Hospital in Coon Rapids. A prayer service will be at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2026 at the funeral home.
Dan was born on July 22, 1950 in Minneapolis to Jack and Marian (Sullivan) Ashlin. He was born and raised in Columbia Heights and graduated from Columbia Heights High School in 1968. Dan proudly served our country in the United States Coast Guard from 1968-1972. While serving in the Coast Guard, he met and married Antoinette “Jean” Waltos on August 21, 1971 in Cleveland, OH. Dan and Jean moved to Fridley to start a family after he was discharged from the service. He worked as a Pressman for the Minneapolis Star Tribune for over 30 years, retiring in 2010. Dan enjoyed fishing, watching baseball and westerns, and spending time at their lake place on Fish Lake in Mora. His relationships with friends and family were extremely important to him. Dan was a devoted and friendly man who was proud of where he came from. His love for his family was unmeasurable. Dan was a great husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa, brother, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.
Dan is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Brandon) Olson of Andover, Andrea Ashlin (Chuck Wagner) of Fridley, and Diana (Bob) Wilman of Blaine; brother, Dennis (Andi) Ashlin of Rush City; grandchildren, Jared (Ashley), Hunter, Alex, and Ava; great granddaughter, McKinley; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jean; and brother, David Ashlin.
