Daniel R Davis, 69, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 30, 2023 after a diagnosis of Parkinson's.
Dan was born on January 5, 1954 in Indianapolis to Donald and Naomi Davis. He was happily married to Janice Davis for 32 years. He has two brothers, Mark (Karen) and Scott (Lisa) Davis. He was the proud Father to Jennifer (John) Hamilton, Step Father to Jessica (Andrew) Cabiness and Ryan (Mary) Boger, and dedicated Grandfather to Cameron (Kayla) Causemaker, Caden (Maruida) Hamilton, Hailey, Sophia, Sarah, Cecelia, Ian and Audra, and Great-Grandchildren Ashton, Penelope and Madelyn. He was a beloved Uncle and Cousin to many as well.
Dan was a lifelong resident of the southside of Indianapolis. He graduated in 1972 from Southport High School, and had previously been employed at Bridgeport Brass before becoming a self employed carpenter and home remodeler.
Dan had extensive knowledge of carpentry and home repair, even extending his talents to help with the Jimmy Carter Work Project, Mission Trips with Southport United Methodist Church, and assisted with rebuilding Henryville and Gulfport after weather damage occurred. He was known for lending a hand to any friend, family or neighbor that needed guidance, advice or anything around the house built or repaired.
Over the years, Dan and Janice enjoyed traveling in their RV to several states and parks, and often went fishing and camping with their grandkids and friends, creating fond memories of being outdoors and spending time with loved ones. He would enjoy exploring a new trail and sitting around a campfire, and usually seen with a dog in his lap. He never stayed in one place too long, even in retirement he could be seen driving his old work truck around town or working on a new project out in his workshop. He will be remembered as a dependable friend, a loving husband, and skilled and wise father and grandfather.
A visitation will be held on September 6, 2023, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. at Southport United Methodist Church, 1947 E Southport Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46227.
In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests donations to be made in his honor to your local animal shelter or church pantry.
