David Kent Alexander, 88, of Indianapolis, passed away on August 22, 2025.
Survived by his wife, Carlene, their children, Buster (Denise) Farley, Julia (Randy) Jones, Kent (Lisa) Alexander, Roger Farley, and Mike (Ivy) Alexander; 10 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Joyce (Vince) Disborough, is David's sole surviving sibling. And lastly, grand-dog Dixie - who always gave him a card for special occasions and it was certainly missed if Dixie did not have her name on a card, he wondered if Dixie as mad at him!
David is preceded in death by parents Van and June Alexander, siblings Dick, Jim, Donna and Susie, son Joey, daughter Mary, and grandson Joseph.
After graduating from Arsenal Tech High School, he took the oath to serve in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1959. After his honorable service, he began a career in banking; retiring after 35 years of working with Indiana National Bank in which he served many years as a Vice President.
He and his beloved bride, best friend and soulmate, Carlene, of 45 years, owned and operated Mrs. Curl for 8 years in Greenwood where he gained the nickname, "Mr. Swirl". Besides enlightening the neighborhood children with teddy grahams on the ice cream cones, they also fed first responders many free meals. Mr. Swirl and Mrs. Curl employed their 2 eldest grandchildren instilling a sound work ethic in them. When the two were not with their loved ones, they were almost certainly off on their next road trip, having traveled most of the 50 United States. They also shared a love of golf, cruising, and church fellowship, something particularly important to them as they believed in keeping the Lord's Day sacred.
Proud father, veteran, avid sportsman, devout Christian, American Legion member and friend are all ways that the masses will remember David. He will forever be thought of as the one who could always make you smile, who would rush from work to ensure you always had a personal cheerleader and number one fan in the bleachers, and the silly personality who would call every year to sing "Happy Birthday."
Visitation will be Thursday, August 28, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., at Simplicity Funeral and Cremation Care, 7520 Madison Avenue, Indianapolis.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to Disabled American Veterans at www.dav.org/ways-to-give/.
Arrangements entrusted to Simplicity Funeral & Cremation Care. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of David, please visit our Tree Store.
