RICHMOND, In. - Daniel "Dan" Steven Dooley, age 75, of Richmond, Indiana, passed away on Friday, November 17, 2023, surrounded by his family. Dan had lost his beloved wife, Viki, in 2022, so it brings great comfort to his family knowing that he and Viki are together again. His passing was also on his mother's birthday, whom he loved and missed dearly.
Born April 1, 1948, in Richmond, Indiana, to Frank and Peggy Robinson Dooley, Dan was a life-long resident of this area. He was a graduate of Centerville High School and a graduate of Ball State University. Dan worked for many years for the City of Richmond's planning department, and then as Vice Chancellor of Administration and Finance at Indiana University East, until his retirement. Dan was also a veteran. He was recognized as an excellent husband, father, and grandfather. He was extremely devoted to his family and friends. He was also someone you could always count on. He loved music, basketball, and playing cards. Dan will be remembered for his mixed tapes, basketball defense skills, and his competitive card talk. He will also be remembered for all the late nights he spent working on homework with his kids, and then grandkids. He enjoyed spending time out on the boat and fishing. He was always up for an adventure with his grandkids and enjoyed taking them out on the farm and collecting berries. He was also a good sport in trying the different recipes his grandkids would create. He loved ice cream and his family made sure to have the freezer stocked up with DQ Dilly Bars and ice cream sandwiches.
Survivors include his children, Peggy (Douglas) Dils of Oskaloosa, Kansas, and Annie (Adam) Duke and Peter Dooley, all of Richmond; grandchildren, Ethan Miller, Forrest Dils, Irish Dils, Riley Duke, Jack Duke, and Molly Duke; and siblings, Deb (Dave) Kerschner, and Doug Dooley, all of Fort Wayne, Indiana; nieces; nephews; cousins; and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his wife Viki, whom he was married to for 54 years and his parents.
There will be a celebration of life at a later date, which will be posted closer to that time. Arrangements are being handled by Doan & Mills Funeral Home, 790 National Road West, Richmond.
Memorial contributions may be made to: Riley Children's Foundation, 30 South Meridian Street, Suite 200, Indianapolis, IN 46204 or Cope Environmental Center, 1730 Airport Road, Centerville, IN 47330.
