Daniel Garber, 69, of Brighton, passed away on August 27, 2023.
Throughout his life, he was a hunter and fisherman, pilot and scuba diver, a connoisseur of World War I first hand accounts with a vast library of non-fiction books. He supported both the Lions and the Republican Party through thick and thin. Dan was an entrepreneur and a published writer. He could be seen most days walking up and down his street, throwing away trash that he found. He was a lover of Labradors and the multiple cats he acquired over the years. He was a reluctant mechanic forced to hone his skills while fixing many beater cars for his daughters. He was a strong supporter of the second amendment. He was an engineer, able to draw plans for home improvement projects. Dan enjoyed playing cards and traveling. He was witty and had a sharp sense of humor that he didn't always show. He rode motorcycles and listened to baseball games on the radio. He enjoyed completing the Sunday crossword and putting around the lake on his boat.
He was a Prosecutor who dedicated his professional life to serving the public for 30 years in Livingston County. He was a man of few words, not an effusively affectionate person but Poppa Walrus loved all his girls.
Dan is survived by his wife of 44 years, Roxanne and daughters Katherine (Spencer) Potter of Grand "Rabbits," Christina (Robert) Ilijanic of Plymouth, Alexandra (Jose Antonio Palop Roman) Garber of Dos Hermanas, Spain, and Andrea (Eric) Krieg of Oak Park, Illinois. Dan is also survived by his sister Jenny of Waterbury Center, Vermont, as well as his nine granddaughters: Brynn, Maya, Daphne, Caroline, Vera, Laura, Eve, Carla, and Isabelle.
The family will host a gathering of friends to share stories and honor Dan's legacy on Friday, September 1 from 12-4 at the American Legion Hall in Howell, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to a charity or non-profit of your choice.
