Daniel Gelsomini Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Campbell Funeral Home - Beverly on May 13, 2022.
Daniel M. Gelsomini, 56, passed away unexpectedly Monday, May 9, 2022 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. Born in Woburn, he was the son of Dorothy Gelsomini and the late David Gelsomini.
Dan started framing houses in CT at the age of 17. He then worked for various remodeling and construction companies around the North Shore for 27 years, owning his own business "Gelsomini Construction" for 10 years. Most recently, he was employed by Paul Haggett & Co. out of Marblehead, MA. Dan always called himself "Dan the Man," happily proving his ability to fix absolutely anything.
Dan loved going on adventures, rock climbing since the age of 20 and often sleeping in the back of his car in order to be on a route at the crack of dawn. He travelled throughout the country, rock climbing in Hawaii, Yosemite, Red Rocks in Nevada, and the Gunks in NY. He loved kayaking, camping, hiking, mountain biking and snowboarding in the White Mountains of NH. Dan enjoyed listening to classic rock and the blues, blasting Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan and AC/DC while driving around the North Shore. He loved getting lunch or dinner at the 99 with his daughters, sitting in the same spot at the bar and always sipping on a Bud Light.
Dan was caring, kind, hard-working and oh so witty. He loved his family and friends so deeply. Danny would do anything for anybody and never asked for anything in return. His personality and laughter filled a room, knowing the exact moment when he would arrive at a family function. There were never any dull moments when Dan was around as he was always the life of the party. He was a loving father, the most devoted son, an "always there for you" brother, a goofy uncle and the most loyal friend.
Daniel is survived by two daughters, Sierra Gelsomini and Mckenna Gelsomini, both of Gloucester, MA; four brothers, David Gelsomini of Marlborough, CT, Dennis (Rita) Gelsomini of Lee, NH, Dean Gelsomini of Marlborough, CT, Darren Gelsomini of Thetford, VT; three sisters, Debbie (Kelly) Pearson, Darlene (Marty) Kalhok and Donna (Kevin) Bellmore, all of Hebron, CT; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life will be held at Cove Community Center in Beverly, MA on Monday, June 20th from 2-5pm. All are invited and encouraged to attend to eat, drink and celebrate Dan's life. Please come with stories and photos to share with us.
In lieu of flowers, Dan's daughters are working with the Echo Lake Foundation to design a memorial bench and plaque to be placed at either White Horse or Cathedral Ledge in NH in honor of their father's love for climbing and the outdoors. This will be a healing spot for all as we watch other climbers reach for the sky just as their father loved to do. This foundation has asked for donations to be made directly to Sierra Gelsomini, then allowing Sierra and Mckenna to work with the foundation to purchase, design and place the bench. Please reach out to either Sierra and Mckenna for their address to send donations to for the memorial bench for Dan.
Remaining donations received will be sent to Mountain Rescue Service, a service that Dan had to use 27 years ago which helped save his life following a climbing accident at Cannon Mt. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, Beverly. Information, direction, and condolences at www.campbellfuneral.com.
