Daniel L. Gingerich, 87, of Plain City, Ohio, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 26, 2024, at Dublin Methodist Hospital. He was born September 17, 1936, in Plain City, Ohio, to the late Levi J. and Sarah (Miller) Gingerich. He married Wilma Troyer on June 5, 1958.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Wilma, of 66 years, his 7 children: Lorene (Robert) Miller of Plain City, Sharon (Willard) Mast of Hutchinson, Kansas, Naomi (Daniel) Chupp of Circleville, Ohio, Jonathan (Anna Marie) Gingerich of Plain City, Deborah (Steve) Miller of Goshen, Indiana, Linda (Myron) Yutzy of Plain City, Yvonne (Lee) Nisly of Hutchinson, Kansas. Also surviving are 31 grandchildren, and 36 great-grandchildren. He is survived by his siblings Edna (Perry) Troyer, Anna (late Ervin) Troyer, John (Erma) Gingerich, Lawrence (Wava) Gingerich, Lee (Celesta) Gingerich, all of Plain City, Ohio.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Mary (late Melvin) Yutzy, Lloyd (late Mary) Gingerich, Joe (Mary) Gingerich, Martha (Mel) Shetler, and Jonas Melvin (Mae) Gingerich. Also preceding him in death were 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Dan grew up as an Amish boy on the farm. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized in his youth. He was a charter member of Bethesda Fellowship, where he faithfully served in various capacities. Any church service or activity was a high priority to him. His love of singing was passed on to his children through daily family singing. Consistent family and personal devotions were a high priority to him.
He was a man with a heart for missions, and encouraged his children to serve others wherever the Lord called them. Dan and Wilma found great fulfillment in volunteering for numerous short-term service opportunities.
Dan was a builder until 1970, when he moved to the family farm. Dan was very creative and ingenious. He loved the challenge of designing, building, or repairing any project that was at hand. He could often be heard singing as he worked. When confronted with challenges, he maintained a positive outlook and attitude. He willingly dropped whatever he was doing to help others.
