64, passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at
his home.
Dan was a man who devoted much of his life to public service and
served 26 years as a member of the Louisville Board of Aldermen and
the Louisville Metro Council. His focus as an elected official was to
make Louisville a better place to call home. He paved and repaired
streets and built sidewalks where residents had been forced to walk in
the street. His idea that Louisville needed a new downtown arena has
brought jobs and prosperity beyond what many thought possible. By his
forging a partnership with MSD many of the southend's long term
drainage problems were eliminated.
Dan also served time on the National League of Cities Infrastructure Committee and was a member of Beechmont Baptist Church.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Delta Johnson. He is
survived by his wife, Sherry Moorman Johnson; sons, Thomas Johnson
(Alice), and Andrew Johnson; granddaughter, Delta Johnson; brother
Timothy Johnson (Kathy), and sister Lori Richardson.
His celebration of life service will be held Saturday, December 2nd
10:00 a.m. at Joseph E. Ratterman and Son, 7336 Southside Drive with
burial in St. Anthony's Catholic Church Cemetery in Axtel, KY.
Visitation 2-7 p.m. Friday at Ratterman's.
Expressions of sympathy may be made to ALS Association KY Chapter.

I have memories of Dan before he was in public service. He was our landlord in Old Louisville in the '80s, and became a good friend. He was a kind, caring goofball who my late husband and I greatly enjoyed being around. One of my husband's fondest memories was when Dan invited him to see Lynyrd Skynyrd at Freedom Hall. I'm sad to learn of Dan's passing, especially due to this horrible disease that nobody deserves to have. My condolences to his family and friends.

I've known Dan for many...many...years. Dan really cared about and took an interest in the people he represented. Dan liked to buy, trade, and sell knives. I think it was mostly for the interaction with all the various people more than anything. I hope he finds the peace he so richly deserves. My deepest condolences to his family.

It was my privilege to know Dan not only through a work situation but having him as our Councilman.
I observed that he was always polite and friendly in his encounters with people and experienced his concern for our neighborhood's / city's well being first hand. He wanted to help everyone.
I am saddened to learn that he suffered from ALS and pray that he is now at peace. My sincere prayers for comfort for his family.
