Daniel LaFromboise Obituary

Daniel (Dan) Martin LaFromboise passed away at his long-time home in Craig, MT, on August 13th, 2025. He was born on November 23rd, 1939, at the Florence Crittenton Home in Helena, MT, to Josephine and Daniel LaFromboise. He was the eldest of four boys, with a total of 12 siblings. He grew up hunting, fishing, and roaming the many mountains around Helena, all while trying to avoid attendance at Helena High School as much as he could.

After high school, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and attended basic training at Camp Pendleton. After his travels and time serving in the Marines, he returned home to Montana. Of all the places Dan traveled, he loved Montana the most.

Dan met Lia in Helena, and they married in February of 1967. They welcomed their daughter Sonni LaFromboise in August of 1969 and their son Daniel (Dusty) LaFromboise in February of 1971.

Dan joined the Montana Highway Patrol and graduated from training on October 15th, 1969.

After years of service, he became a deputy and then a livestock inspector. He also worked in building construction throughout his life, a profession he shared with his son.

He lived in Craig for 50+ years of his life, and he found many friendships within the community.

Dan was an active member of the Craig School Board for years, and some teased him with the title "mayor of Craig." He also participated in the Craig volunteer fire department in his more active years. His granddaughters were fortunate enough to grow up in the house next door to him and Lia.

He never really retired but rather spent his life being as active as possible. He enjoyed hunting, trapping, fishing, spending time with his family, children, and granddaughters. Lia and Dan enjoyed gardening at their home in their retirement years. He passed many lessons down to his kids, grandkids, and all who knew him through the hobbies he loved.

His legacy lives on in his family, community, and every building and road he ever had a hand in constructing.

Daniel is survived by those in his immediate family, including his loving wife, Lia, his daughter Sonni LaFromboise, son Dusty LaFromboise, his daughter Lisa LaFromboise, his granddaughters Mariya LaFromboise (Devon) and Cassy LaFromboise (Kasey + Karley), his nephew Alvin Boehme (Sandie), and his beloved Old English Jack Russell sidekick, Tank LaFromboise.
