Daniel LaVoie Obituary

LaVoie, Daniel Daniel Joseph LaVoie (November 4, 1953 - April 19, 2024) of Buffalo, passed away on April 19, 2024, surrounded by family.

Dan was born to Louis and Marion LaVoie in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, on November 4, 1953. The family returned to Buffalo in 1957, where Dan would spend the majority of his life.

Dan, among so many other attributes, was a natural born teacher, mentor, and advocate for the less fortunate, helping countless people along the way. He held a Bachelor of Arts in English, but was learned in many subjects including history, philosophy, and religion, which led him to a teaching career at All Saints School in Buffalo, where he was beloved by students and colleagues alike.

His selfless concern for others eventually led to a career with People, Inc., where he dedicated himself to bettering his clients' lives, becoming, for many, a lifelong friend.

Dan will be remembered by his family for his kindness, sense of humor, and his gift with words and mastery of so many subjects. He enjoyed assisting family members on their academic journeys, helping them become better writers and thinkers in their own right.

Dan is preceded in death by his parents, half-siblings Cecile (Max) Kline of Indiana, and Arlene (Al) Rocker of Alaska, and his niece and goddaughter Shannon Debus. He is survived by his siblings Rick (Denise), Lou (Nancy), Sherry Wardzala (late Mark), Franklin, and Michelle, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews, grandnieces/nephews, and friends.

A memorial service will be held at the Unity Church of Buffalo, 1243 Delaware Ave., Buffalo, on Saturday, June 1st at 4:00 pm, followed by a reception at the same location. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to your public library.
