Daniel Lyons Obituary

Daniel Lyons lived a life full of adventures before he passed away at his Virginia Beach home on September 11, 2025. After growing up in a military family that moved frequently, he broadened his horizons through periods of study at the University of Maryland in journalism and at Miami University of Ohio in naval science where he received an honorable discharge from the United States Navy. A period of wanderlust ensued before he embraced two very distinct careers over the course of his life.

Danny was most proud of being at the heart of a vibrant era for popular music when he worked as District Promotion Manager for Capitol Records in the Washington metropolitan area. In this role, he collaborated with many of the musicians who defined the 1970s and early 1980s to achieve radio airplay, record sales and concert promotions.

Danny later built a second career in commercial construction safety management, serving long stints with Clark Construction and Armada Hoffler. His work left a lasting impact on landmark projects including Reston Town Center, Virginia Beach Town Center, Baltimore's Inner Harbor East, and the Glenmont Metro Station.

Known to friends and family as a carefree bon vivant, Danny found joy in community and conversation, especially in the neighborhoods he loved most: Baltimore's Inner Harbor and Virginia Beach's Chicks Beach. His zest for life, warmth and easygoing humor drew people to him, and he carried that spirit with him throughout the years.

Danny is survived by multiple generations of family who cherish his memory and impact on their lives. In lieu of donations or memorials, his family encourages all who knew him to raise a glass in honor of Danny and celebrate a life well lived. Condolences may be left for the family at www.altmeyerfh.com.
