Daniel Stephen Medvid, 61, of Charlotte, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
Born on November 10, 1963, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Dan was the beloved son of the late Nufrie and Iris Hallam Medvid. He was raised in Pittsburgh and graduated from Chartiers Valley High School in 1981.
Dan continued his education at Ohio University, where he majored in English Literature and Creative Writing and was a proud member of the Men's Varsity Swim Team. Even after graduating in 1985, he remained deeply connected to the OU community, establishing the Daniel and Sophia Medvid Bobcat Legacy Scholarship to support future generations.
He then earned a master's degree in Professional Writing from Carnegie Mellon University and built a successful career in communications, primarily within the financial industry, including roles at Bank of America and Wells Fargo.
Beyond his professional life, Dan was a passionate and curious soul. He found joy in the written word - especially the works of Jack London, E.L. Doctorow, and Robert Frost - and never stopped learning. A devoted Pittsburgh Steelers fan, he cherished game days as a tradition passed down from his father. Dan was also an avid bird enthusiast, always eager to share his knowledge with others.
He found peace and inspiration in nature. Dan loved swimming and playing water polo, activities that reflected his competitive spirit and love for the water. He and his wife had plans to hike through France, Spain, and Italy this fall - a testament to his adventurous heart.
Dan brought joy everywhere he went, with his unwavering humor and child-like enthusiasm for everything he encountered. His energy was infectious, his laughter uplifting, and his excitement for life left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
His greatest joy was his family and friendships. He was a devoted husband and a proud father who delighted in watching his children grow into remarkable adults. He lived each day with intention, love, faith, and gratitude - and inspired those around him to do the same.
Dan is survived by his loving wife, Julia Medvid; his children, Sophia Medvid (fiancé Duncan Farquhar), Andrew Medvid, and Ronna Emerling (fiancé David Monts); and his cherished granddaughter, Sylvie Emerling.
He will be remembered for his warmth, faith, wisdom, humor and unwavering love - and dearly missed by all who knew him.
Friends and family will be received on Monday, May 19, 2025 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Thomas-Little Funeral Service, Inc. and Crematory, 5000 Noblestown Road, Oakdale (724-693-2800). Departing prayers will be said at 10 am in the funeral home. A mass will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church, Carnegie. Interment to follow at Holy Trinity Cemetery, Carnegie.

Daniel helped me become a better person helped me inspire my daughter to be a swimmer and she was on club team then High school team for along time.
Made a higher impression in our life we continually thank him. My grands were swimmers for a while too.

People that move through our life can either improve us or keep moving. Daniel was one that made you pay attention
Now I am sure he is free to spread that infectious personality through the universe.
Thank you
Daniel for contributing to our life

I am sorry to hear of Dan's passing. I went to High School with Dan. We were on the swimming team together he was two years ahead of me. We had a handful of elite swimmers but in order to win a meet Dan and i had to perform. He was a natural athlete with limited swimming experience (he had not swum on the AAU team prior to high school) I was a boy 89 pound 4'11'' freshman but did have experience. In order to win dual meets Dan and i had to win. When things went well dan swam a solid race and I would come from behind and run down many larger and strong athletes. We were finaly able to beat teams like West Allegheny, Montour and Keystone Oaks. Coach Robinson called us his "bread and butter team". I am thankful that Dan befriended a small wimpy nerdy freshman it meant alot. I still swim and compete on a National level time fortunately has been kind to me. I hope to see Dan when I go home to my Lord and King Jesus Christ.

I was deeply saddened to hear of Dan´s death. I worked for him at Wells Fargo for about three years. He was a great manager who taught me a lot. He also had a great sense of humor. He spoke about his family with pride. He truly enjoyed his life and he loved poking fun at corporate-speak.
I will always be grateful that we crossed paths.

Dan and I worked together at Bank of America back in the early 2000s and remained in touch via social media when I moved away from Charlotte. I appreciated his wit, his kindness and his love of good, honest and clear writing. I´ll never forget Dan´s kindness toward me when I joined the bank. I´ll do my best to carry on in his tradition - rooting out evil corporate speak whenever I can. My deepest and most sincere condolences go out to his family and friends. - Scott Valbert
