Mr. Daniel James “Dan” Mercer, age 73, a quiet, generous, kind, and loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on May 21, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Dan was born in Flint, Michigan, on August 29, 1951, son of Donald & Patsy (Zink) Mercer. A lifelong Millington resident, he was raised alongside his siblings and graduated from Millington High School with the class of 1969. Throughout his life he was active in many community activities and sports including Cub Scouts, riding dirt bikes, baseball, basketball, football, track, trapping, and hunting. Dan was drafted into the United States Army on February 11, 1971, and honorably served until February 1, 1973. Dan returned to U.S. soil and began his career at A.C. Spark Plug in Flint. He worked as a tool & die maker for 30 years until his retirement from Delphi. Dan married Evelia Aguirre in October of 1977 and welcomed the birth of their only child, Jessica Marie Dever (Mercer). Dan married Patricia Mercer (McIntyre) on August 1, 2015, and celebrated nine years of marriage. Dan was a member of the Millington Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. He also was a member of the Flint Rock and Gem Club. Dan has always loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, trapper, and fisherman. He spent many hours rock hunting, mining, gardening, and making improvements on his land. It is Dan’s legacy for his grandchildren to always have a place to hunt and enjoy the outdoors.
He is survived by his wife, Patty Mercer; daughter, Jessica Marie (Levi) Dever; bonus children: Marc (Trisha) Brazeal, Joshua (Rene) Brazeal, and Kristin (James) Dinkins; grandchildren: Graycin, Clayton, Javon, Jesse, Ava, Adyn, Tyler, Henry and Eleanor; mother, Mrs. Patsy Anna Mercer; siblings: Karen (Steve) Hess, David (Janet) Mercer, Dale (Tracy) Mercer, Donna (Dan) Weber, Dean Mercer, Dawn (Tim) Rueger; as well as extended family and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his father, Donald James Mercer.
Funeral services for Dan will be at 12 p.m. (noon) on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the Millington Baptist Church; visitation at church will begin at 10 a.m. and last until the time of service. Pastor Terry Blackmer will officiate. Immediately following, Dan will be laid to rest in Millington Twp. Cemetery and receive military funeral honors under the auspices of the U.S. Army and Conrad-Wager-Keene American Legion Post 164, Millington, Michigan.
