Daniel Peter

Daniel Stephen Peter passed away on December 30, 2025. He was born on September 3, 1950, in Boulder, Colorado, to Arnold and Ann (Cernich) Peter. On October 9, 1981, he married Janice Diane Jones in Cañon City, Colorado.

Dan is survived by his devoted wife, Janice; his children, Marcie (Steve) Young, Christopher Peter, and Crystal Sanders; and his cherished grandchildren, Lucas DiRito, Lo Young, and Nicholas Sanders and including his four siblings: Cathy (Stan) Ivans, John (Sue) Peter, Joe (Debbie) Peter and Rich (Jeannie) Peter, numerous nieces and nephews and a special niece, Cheryl Jaquez. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold and Ann Peter; his son, Scott Peter; and his parents-in-law, William and Lois Jones.

Dan graduated from Holy Cross Abbey in 1968 and went on to build a life defined by hard work and service. His career spanned more than five decades and reflected his diverse mechanical, construction and people skills along with his strong work ethic. He began as Head Mechanic overseeing the automotive fleet for the Holy Cross Abbey School. He later spent 25 years in the coal mining industry with Energy Fuels Coal Mine. After mining, Dan founded a successful fine trim carpentry and remodeling business before completing his career with nearly a decade of service at the Territorial Correctional Facility with the Colorado Department of Corrections. Throughout his working life, he was a trusted mentor and friend to many.

Dan found joy in working on old cars and trucks, riding motorcycles, target shooting, playing his guitar, and listening to his extensive music collection. Above all, he treasured time spent with his children and grandchildren. On any given day, he could be found outdoors, soaking up the sunshine while tending his yard and flowers-quiet moments that reflected his steady, thoughtful nature.

Services will be held on Thursday, January 8, 2026 at 1:00 P.M. at Wilson Memorial Chapel, 1449 S. 9th St., Cañon City, CO 81212. Casual attire preferred.
