Daniel "Dan" Patrick Quinlan, 49, of Marengo, passed away on December 10, 2023, in Marengo, Iowa, following complications from a brain injury endured two years earlier.
Dan was born in Iowa City, Iowa on January 12, 1974, to Jean (Henik) and Larry Quinlan. He grew up in a large family with three brothers and two sisters. He graduated from Iowa Valley High School in 1992, Indian Hills Community College in 1994, and received a B.A. in social science from the University of Northern Iowa in 1997. He worked for many years at Windstream Communications as a Circuit Design Engineer. He was also an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Marengo. He sang in the church choir with Deb, taught religious education classes, and was an active member of the Knights of Columbus.
On June 19, 1999, he married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Deb (née Walton). They were blessed with two children, Jeana and Aidan. He also loved his cat, Abby. There was nothing in this world Dan loved more than spending time with his family. He especially loved family road trips and going to the Iowa State Fair every summer.
Dan was an incredibly loving, generous, and patient man. He never missed a chance to lend a helping hand to the people and the community that he loved. His kindness is an inspiration.
Despite facing health challenges, he never lost his sense of humor. Throughout his entire journey, he cracked jokes and laughed alongside his family and children. He had a great sense of humor and his ability to make others smile will be missed.
Dan is survived by his two children, Jeana and Aidan; his parents, Jean and Larry; as well as his sisters, Anne and Joni, his brothers, Mike (Julie) and Ed (Janel), as well as several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Deb, his brother Joe, and his grandparents.
Please join us in celebrating Dan's life at a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 15, 2023, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Marengo with Father Scott Lemaster officiating. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery, Marengo. A visitation for Dan will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, December 14, 2023, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with a rosary recited at 3:30 p.m. Memorials may be contributed to the continued support of his children Jeana and Aidan.
