Daniel T. "Dan" Riffel, 69, passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2025 in Spencer. He was born on Monday, March 5, 1956 to the late Nyle Junior Riffel and Betty Jane (Fletcher) Riffel Avery in Martinsville, Indiana. Dan was a 1974 graduate of Martinsville High School. He went on to serve for 26 years in the Martinsville Police Department. After retirement, he was the head of security at St. Francis Hospital in Mooresville. He was also a part of a cold case team. Dan was a licensed member of the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Ham Radio. He liked talking to hundreds of other members around the world. Dan loved being outdoors fishing, deer hunting and mushroom hunting. He took pride in his farm which he called his little piece of heaven up on "Rattlesnake Ridge". Dan loved working with his hands on woodworking projects, spending time with his dad doing masonry work, working in a CNC machine shop, rebuilding a chopper and tons of other projects. He also enjoyed playing the guitar, banjo and harmonica. Dan had an amazing Law Enforcement Officer family that he was extremely proud of, each and every one, that was in his life. Dan was very much a family man. He took pride in teaching his children to maintain their vehicles. Dan will be missed by all of those that were a part of his life. He is survived by his wife, Kristi A. (Malcom) Riffel; children, Joanie Kitchen (Todd), Jamie Guy (Ryan), Jason Riffel (Debra), Jennifer Davis, Gracie Lewis and Christina Pingle (Aaron); 15 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren. Dan is preceded in death by his son, Benjamin Lane; parents, Nyle and Betty Jane; sister, Sharon Clark. No services are planned at this time.
