Daniel Scrima Obituary
In Loving Memory of Daniel Scrima
April 7, 1937 - Oct 15, 2025
It is with deep love and sorrow that we announce the passing of Daniel Scrima (POPS), a devoted family man, engaging spirit, and unforgettable soul who left this world peacefully at the age of 88.
Born in 1937, Pops pursued a life of giving, faith and "Fun." Pops was a Lieutenant in the FDNY where he not only saved lives but learned to become a Master Chef in our family's eyes. His creations are still discussed in our homes often. A hardworking man, he built his legacy on the principles of God and family first, always doing the right thing, and helping out whenever you could. He was always present, dependable, and always putting others before himself.
Pops was a character in many ways, especially with his directness and charismatic sense of humor. He enjoyed crabbing at the beach, stopping at the casino or horse races on the way, or finding a great seafood restaurant to eat. He enjoyed life to the fullest, especially when at family gatherings. Pops was a professional soccer player as a young adult and actually scored in a goal in the Olympic tryouts. He won the Babe Ruth award as the top high school soccer player in the Bronx, a very prestigious award at the time. He also sang professionally, under the stage name of Danny Shaw, singing the classics to many young fans. In addition, he had a home inspection service for many years after retiring from the FDNY.
Generous to a fault, he was the kind of man who would give you the shirt off his back. Pops always reached out to others who were in need. Anytime someone would come to his house, they would be walking out with something he gave them.
Pops cherished and loved his family more than anything else. He leaves behind a tremendous legacy he was extremely proud of and difficult to match.
Pops is predeceased by his wife of nearly 62 years, Lynn C. Scrima (FUN) in May 2021. Surviving Pops are his children: Dan Scrima and wife Kathy, Chris Scrima and wife Hedy, Debbie Wood and her husband Mike, Donna Black and her husband Kevin, Lynn Greene and her husband Bill, and his grandchildren: Dan Scrima 3rd and wife Melanie, Matt Scrima, Denise Scrima, Katie Johnson and her husband Dylan, Mike Scrima and his wife Meagan, Kristen Hosty and her husband Matt, John Scrima and his wife Yohana, Kevin Scrima and Danielle Berezny, Grace Scrima, Melissa Scrima, Sabrina Scrima, Cassandra Wood & husband Bryan Casey, Caitlyn Dhand & husband Suneel, Christina Wood & wife Jenna McRae, Derek Black, Dylan Black, Bill Greene, Jordan Ruggiero and husband Dwayne and his great grandchildren: Harley Scrima, Daniel Scrima 4th, Xavier Scrima, Mike Scrima, Jack Scrima, Harry Johnson, Jeanne Johnson, Griffon Hosty.
The entire family, as well as many others who knew him, will miss his dynamic personality, his crisp humor and his presence.
Rest in peace, Dan Scrima. You have left a wonderful legacy behind and always lived life to its fullest. You will truly be missed by everyone.
