Anthony James "Tony" Scrima, Jr., 85, passed away on November 15, 2024, at Angels Grace Hospice in Oconomowoc, WI. Born on February 8, 1939, in
Waukesha, WI, where he was a lifelong resident beginning as a child on Main Street to residing in his current home for 55 years.
Tony attended St. Joe's Catholic School before graduating from Catholic Memorial High School. His early education set the stage for a life marked by dedication and service. Tony's commitment to his country was evident through his service in the US Army from 1962 to 1964, where he was stationed in Greenland working on Project Ice Worm, a top-secret initiative during the Cold War where he assisted in building a network of mobile nuclear missile launch sites under the ice sheet. He continued his service in the National Guard until 1966.
Professionally, Tony was known for his creativity and skill in carpentry, progressing from laborer to finishing carpenter over his career. He also enjoyed his time as a stocker at St. Vincent De Paul and pursued his passion for photography as an amateur photographer. His knack for capturing moments and scenes was well appreciated as many of Tony's images appeared in the Waukesha Freeman. He enjoyed building things, carving wood, and refinishing furniture - all within his workshop, nicknamed "the mole hole".
Tony's hobbies included fishing, where he served as secretary of Lunkers Unlimited and planned many tournaments and jamborees. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes, earning the accolade of State Champion and an induction into the Horseshoe Pitchers Hall of Fame. He played both competitively (with Muskego and Beloit Clubs) and recreationally, and built a custom court in his backyard, all reflecting his competitive spirit and love for the game.
Tony is survived by his loving wife, Charlene Scrima; daughters, Susanne Crubaugh (Curt) and Sandra "Cassy" Scrima (Fred Luehrs); grandchildren, Brianna (Overkamp) Weaver (Aaron) and Ellie Overkamp; and brother, Joseph (Chris) Scrima.
