Daniel Shaffer

After a short but brutal battle with stomach cancer, Daniel Shaffer of Langhorne, Pennsylvania passed away at St. Mary Medical Center on July 10, 2021. Originally from Coal Township (Shamokin), PA, Dan was born August 26, 1946 and moved to the Bucks County area in 1998. Dan is survived by his husband, Mark Costello, his sister Margaret Krebs, and a big family of nieces and nephews. He is preceded by his brothers Bill, Jim, George, and his sister Jean. He was surrounded with love and compassion during his final days. Along with Mark, his sister, nieces, and friends were also by his side. Dan was a retired elementary teacher whose dedication and passion for his students was unwavering. His young students adored him as he touched their lives and created a love of learning. Former students and parents would always approach him to say hello and let him know how much they enjoyed his class. After his heart surgery in 2004, Dan became a Heart Ambassador volunteer at St. Mary and soon thereafter a volunteer there in the Perinatology office. He developed close friendships with his fellow volunteers as well as the office staff. Dan loved skiing, cruise vacations, and cheered on both local and professional sports teams. He loved his home in Langhorne and the many parties and celebrations there over the years. He performed with the Bucks County Singers, where yet even more close friendships developed. Dan and his husband Mark were so lucky to have amazing and welcoming families on both sides and a myriad of close friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Dan never took that for granted. The care and compassion shown by the nurses, staff, and doctors at Alliance Cancer Center and St. Mary hospital will never be forgotten. Relatives and friends are invited to Dan's Life Celebration at Dunn/Givnish 378 S Bellevue Ave, Langhorne, PA 19047 on Friday, July 16, 2021 from 6:00-8:00 P.M. and again on Saturday morning from 10:00 A.M. – 12 Noon. A funeral Mass will be held in his hometown of Shamokin at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church, 815 W Chestnut St, Coal Township, PA 17866 on Monday July 19 at 11 A.M.
