Daniel Aaron Stein, aged 68, of Vancouver, Washington left this life and went on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 30th, 2025. Dan was born on September 20th of 1957 in Spokane, Washington, son of Col. Michael E. and LaVerne M. (VanDeest) Stein.
Dan grew up in a military household moving to various places including California, New Jersey, and Virginia. He grew up attending Presbyterian churches. He was a member of Boy Scouts, had a paper route, and participated in church boys' choir and church youth group. He spent his boyhood outdoors hiking, fishing, and exploring with his brothers. When he was older, he had shot-gun lessons and went bird hunting with his dad. He graduated from Groveton High School, Alexandria, VA in 1975. He then served in the Marine Corps from 1976 - 1980 specializing in avionics repair on Sea Knight helicopters. When he left the service, his family was living in Ohio and attending Pataskala First Presbyterian church, where he met his first wife and married in 1984. He attended DeVry Institute of Technology and Ohio State University.
Dan moved his growing family through several states with jobs at Schlumberger, Boeing, Sprint, Cisco Systems, and Shick Solutions. In 2001 in Missouri, he achieved his dream of building a family home. He traveled with his church's emergency chainsaw crew for natural disasters, including Hurricane Katrina in 2005. He met his second wife, Margaret, through work in 2017 and they bonded over their love for travel. In 2019, he moved back to Washington and started Columbia CNC with his son the following year. Dan and Margaret were married in his son's home in September, 2022. After a year and a half battled with cancer, he passed away on October 30th, 2025 in Vancouver, WA.
Daniel is survived by his wife, Margaret; his seven children, "my seven wonders,": Sean, JT, Danielle, Zane, Rose, Kyle, and Wren; his brothers: Stuart and James; and six grandchildren
He was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and LaVerne, and his brother, Michael Jr.
