Daniel "Big D" Thomas Surface, age 66 of Crawfordsville passed away on Friday, November 29, 2024 at Franciscan Health Lafayette. He was born in Crawfordsville on April 5, 1958 to the late Thomas L Surface and Sandra Lucille (Harwood) Andrews.
Dan attended Fountain Central and Southmont High Schools. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy and was honorably discharged in 1975. He was a long-time concrete contractor and worked at DJJ Company at Nucor Steel. He loved fishing, mushroom hunting and drag racing at Bunker Hill. He was a man who loved a short race and a tall tale.
He is survived by his children, Daniel (Christina) Surface of Noblesville, Samantha (Adam) Sperry of Crawfordsville, Jacob Surface, and Emily Bales; a sister, Jeanie Cummins of Crawfordsville; 9 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Perry Arthur Surface; a grandson, Asher Valen Surface; a brother, Robert Alan Surface; and his dogs, Marley and Mojo.
Visitation will be at Sanders Funeral Care, 315 S Washington St in Crawfordsville on Thursday, December 5, 2024 from 4:00pm until the time of the Celebration of Life service at 6:00pm with military honors by the United States Navy and Legion Post 72 Honor Guard.
