Daniel R. Tustin

Daniel R. Tustin, 64, of Bloomfield, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Friday, August 18, 2023, at St. Francis Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on January 1, 1959, in Hartford, son to the late Richard B. and Margaret (Rose) Tustin.
Dan grew up in Windsor, attended local schools and was a graduate of the Loomis Chaffee School, Class of 1977. Following high school, he continued his education taking classes at the University of Connecticut and he earned a certificate in mechanical and electrical drafting from Porter and Chester School of Design in Enfield. Dan had a long career as a machinist, fabricator, and machine maintenance mechanic, and was employed by various companies including Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Custom Fabrication and Services in Bloomfield, CUNO in Enfield, and Jacobs Vehicle Systems in Bloomfield before retiring. Aside from his busy career, Dan looked forward to spending time outdoors. He enjoyed biking and hiking, camping with his family, skiing the slopes of many mountains across New England, and traveling to the beaches of Cape Cod and Rhode Island. In his spare time, you could find him at his home or in his yard tinkering and fixing things as he was a genuine handyman. However, what truly set Dan apart was the exceptional person he was. He epitomized kindness, selflessness, and humility. A soft spoken, and humble soul, he went to great lengths for the people he was close to, never seeking anything in return. Although Dan's time with us was cut short, his personality, demeanor and smile will be remembered by many for years to come.
Dan is survived by his two children, Nicholas Tustin and his partner Stephanie Ahart of San Francisco, CA, and Kelsey Tustin and her fiancé Nicholas Guay of Cambridge, MA, along with their mother, Judith Tustin of West Suffield. He is also survived by extended family members and many dear friends. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Timothy B. Tustin.
Celebration of Life services for Dan will be held at a later date. Please contact the family for details. His family would like to offer a special thank you to the doctors, nurses, and staff at the St. Francis Hospital 8th Floor Cancer Unit and their hospice team, the Smilow Cancer Center at Saint Francis, as well as the staff at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston, MA, for their care, compassion and support over the last several years.
