Daniel Phillip Wieland passed away after a hard fight at Henry Ford Hospital with loved ones by his side the evening of Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at the age of 56. Daniel was born in Bay City, Michigan on June 10, 1965 to Charles (Chuck) Wieland and Constance (Connie) Phillips. He married his true love, Christine (McCarron) Wieland on August 8, 1992.
Dan's involvement in the community helped shape the lives of so many people. He coached soccer for 13 years, instilling a sense of integrity and strength in all his players. He helped coach both the Essexville Garber Boys and Girls Soccer teams to their first ever District Championship. In addition to coaching, Dan refereed soccer throughout the Tri-City Area for over 14 years.
Dan was always ready and willing to help in any way he could. He was a talented craftsman who built his home in Essexville, Michigan and invested his time and talent towards building sets for the Essexville Garber Theatre. Recently he'd been crafting corn-hole boards for his family, playing any chance he got, teasing his children, and working his way to "Corn Hole King" status.
Dan had a strong work ethic and drive. He achieved his Black Belt in American Taekwondo. In the little free time he had, Dan was an avid hunter and fisherman. He hunted deer, but he loved the art and thrill of duck hunting. Most importantly, Dan was an incredible father. He raised three strong, compassionate, and capable children. He pushed them hard, loved them dearly, and was so very proud of them.
Besides his wife Christine and his parents Charles and Constance, Dan is survived by his three children, Jenna Wieland (fiancé, Luke Gembrowski), Brady Wieland (girlfriend, Carly D'Alessandro), and Conner Wieland; sisters, Beth Linton and Kim Jaynes; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Dan was preceded in death by his step-father Dean Phillips, father and mother-in-law, William and Delores McCarron; and cousins, Tim Abbs and Megan Buffman.
A funeral service will take place on Monday, August 23, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Squires Funeral Home, 211 N. Henry Street, Bay City, Michigan 48706. Dan's family will be ready to receive visitors at Squires Funeral Home on Sunday, August 22, 2021 from 2:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m. and one hour before the service on Monday. Pastor Joseph Atchinson will preside with cremation to follow.
Dan's family would like to thank the physicians, nurses, and staff of Henry Ford Hospital for the outstanding care he received. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed towards the wishes of the family.
